Changes in the Distribution of Income and the New Economic Model in Colombia
Author: Mauricio Cárdenas
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Business cycles
Languages : en
Pages : 78
Book Description
"This paper has analyzed the changes in the distribution of income in Colombia since 1976 using data for urban economy (seven largest metropolitan areas) and for the manufacturing sector. Evidence is shown that the structural reforms that took place in the early 1990s have been related to higher income concentration in Colombia, where levels of inequality were already impressively high. The results suggest that both trade liberalization and skill complementary technological change have a positive impact on skill premiums"--p. 5.

Author: Adriana Rocío Cardozo Silva
Publisher: Peter Lang
ISBN: 9783631603864
Category : Colombia
Languages : en
Pages : 228
Book Description
This book analyses the distributional effects of economic growth on different dimensions of poverty in Colombia. It provides a microeconomic perspective on how economic growth affected poverty and inequality at the household level, as well as a macroeconomic perspective on the effects of growth on regional living standards. The study incorporates recent discussions on multidimensional analysis of well-being and goes beyond traditional income based measures, thereby contributing to the ongoing research on how to measure pro-poor growth and on the importance of incorporating different dimensions of well-being in convergence analysis.

Author: Robert L. Slighton
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Income
Languages : en
Pages : 66
Book Description
An analysis is made of the income distribution relative to the economic growth in Colombia. Distribution of income in Colombia has been, and is, very unequal: 10 percent of the population of the large cities receives about half of the total personal income. This study examines the hypothesis that this inequality will widen if growth of the modern sector of the economy is retarded after the transition from agrarianism to the dual economy is begun. Author: International Monetary Fund. Western Hemisphere Dept.
Publisher: International Monetary Fund
ISBN: 1513546260
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 103
Book Description
This Selected Issues paper addresses key areas that would contribute to maintaining macroeconomic stability and inclusive growth. Strong economic growth in Colombia has significantly reduced poverty, but has had limited impact on reducing inequality. Strong growth and social programs have helped reduce poverty. Going forward, efforts to further strengthen education, pension, and tax systems stand to yield important social gains, as recognized by the national development plan. Labor market distortions have declined in recent years, but challenges remain. The elimination of infrastructure gaps will also play a key role in sustaining strong and broad-based growth, and supporting further economic diversification.
