Excerpt from Catalogue of the Third Annual Exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists (Incorporated): Held at the Waldorf Astoria, New York, From March 28th to April 14th, Inclusive The directors believe that no agency of reconstruction - Which is the work of the world today - offers greater hope of success than that of the free statement of conviction. The Society offers this opportunity for expression, and with it an impartial medium of sale which has already proved its value to a substantial number of exhibitors. Artists who believe in the principle of the Society and who desire it to continue and permanently succeed should not only send to the exhibition but should see to it that others do so. They should secure members of their own schools in order that these be fully understood, they should welcome exhibitors of opposed ideas in order that the contrasts make still more clear the value of the different tendencies. An Advisory Board has been elected from amongst artists who have long been in sympathy with the ideal of the Society. The directors look to this board for suggestions which will be of value in our future work. For such persons, not necessarily artists, who believe in the Society and desire to give it their aid without taking part in the exhibitions, a class of Associate Members has been formed. Their dues shall be ten dollars annually and they will receive the general notices and catalogues of the Society, and members' season tickets to its exhibition.
