Excerpt from Fluid Milk and Cream Report: July-December 1964 Early July fluid milk prices were generally up seasonally at both dealers purchasing and consumer levels, the Crop Reporting Board reports. Dealers' buying prices were higher in h8 markets, about one third of the 160 reporting markets. Lower buying prices were reported in 1 market. Prices for quarts delivered to homes advanced in 26 markets but declined in h. Store prices were reported above June in 28 markets for quarts, 31 markets for half-gallons, and 21 markets for gallons. Price declines for out - of - store milk sales were as follows: Quarts, 10 markets; half - gallons, 12 markets; and gallons, 7 markets. Milk purchased for fluid usage in about 160 markets in early July averaged per hundredweight. This is 18 cents higher than June and h cents over July 1963. Compared with the July average for the period 1958 - 62, the average this month is 3 cents lower. Averages are higher than June in 7 of the 9 regions. The averages are about the same as June in 1 region and lower in 1. Compared with July a year ago, the averages this month are higher in 6 of the 9 regions, unchanged in 2, but lower in 1. Increases over last year range from 1 cent in the East South Central Region to 8 cents in the East North Central. Other area increases are: 7 cents in the Mountain States, b cents in the Middle Atlantic, and 3 cents in both the west South Central and Pacific. The average is about the same as last year in the New England and the South Atlantic Regions. The west North Central average is 2 cents per hundredweight lower.
