Ratios for this company were very unusual as follows: Year....... 1919 1920 1921 1922 1923 Ratio...... 442 341 197 260 269 'Note that these ratios are one hundred and not one. With a ratio of 1.00 the current assets and current liabilities are equal; with a ratio of 100, as in some of the unusual cases, the current assets are one hundred times as large as the current liabilities. The ratio in 1924 was more normal for the reason that there had been a great increase in the current liabilities in the balance sheet in contrast to prior years where the current liabilities had been negligible--a change in financial policy. Out of the sixty-seven cases here designated as unusual, fortyeight showed a ratio of ten or more. The apparent causes for most of these would seem to be for the most part either the entire absence of any current liabilities or the existence of current liabilities in very negligible amounts. In one case there were no current assets. Such cases account for twenty-five of the forty-eight unusual cases above a ratio of ten. In seven more cases the currentliabilities may be designated as low rather than negligible. In nine cases there was in comparison with prior years a decrease in current liabilities at the same time there was an increase in current assets. This, of course, made for a higher ratio. In some cases the current assets may be designated as unusually large and increasing with the current liabilities not unusual. One final point about these unusual cases. It may be interesting to note which type of company and which geographical section of the country contains the larger proportion of the...
