Book Description
Excerpt from A Brief Account of the History of Medicine in the Province of Quebec, 1535-1838 Perhaps I may recall to you the chief points in his brilliant career. He was born in Frankfort-on-Main on the 15th of March, 1838. He studied in Gottingen, Vienna, Berlin, Utrecht, England, and France, and graduated in 1860. After the practice of general medicine for twenty-six years, he began in 1886 to devote his time exclusively to diseases of the ear, nose, throat, and lungs. He retired from practice in 1903, after receiving signal honors from his colleagues and his Sovereign. He made many valuable contributions to laryngology, most notably the work with which you are no doubt familiar, on diseases of the upper respiratory passages. At the recent Tuerck-Czermak Jubilee, this Association was unfortunately not represented, but our good wishes were conveyed to the President through a letter from the Secretary. We have to chronicle a sad event in connection with this Jubilee, in the sudden death from cardiac syncope on Wednesday morning, April 25, of our recently elected Honorary Fellow, Professor Leopold von Schroetter, who had on the previous day delivered, apparently in the best of health, the oration on the opening of the First International Congress of Rhinolaryngology. Hofrat Professor Dr. Leopold von Schroetter, Ritter von Kristelli, was born in Graz on the 27th February, 1837.
