Bose-Einstein Correlations in Particle and Nuclear Physics

Bose-Einstein Correlations in Particle and Nuclear Physics PDF Author: Richard M. Weiner
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 512

Book Description
Intensity interferometry, and Bose?Einstein Correlations in particular, at present constitutes the only experimental method for the determination of sizes and lifetimes of sources in particle and nuclear physics. The measurement of these is essential for an understanding of the dynamics of strong interactions which are responsible for the existence and properties of atomic nuclei. Bose?Einstein Correlations in Particle and Nuclear Physics is a collection of 47 previously published papers which have been chosen not only for their historical significance but for their important and so far lasting contribution to this subject. They appear in chronological order and are preceded by comments from the editor as to their importance and relevance to the field today. Bose?Einstein Correlations in Particle and Nuclear Physics is an invaluable and unique reference source for researchers, lecturers and graduate students at both universities and research institutes. Advance praise for this volume includes: ?This comprehensive reprint collection, compiled and introduced by Professor Richard Weiner, surveys both experimental and theoretical papers in the field of Bose?Einstein Correlations. The material included should prove invaluable to any worker or student entering the field. As noted by Professor Weiner, Bose?Einstein Correlations may be the most important step towards finding the "holy grail" of a quark-gluon plasma.? ? Professor Gerson Goldhaber, University of California, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, USA

Book Description
Engages with the impact of modern technology on experimental physicists. This study reveals how the increasing scale and complexity of apparatus has distanced physicists from the very science which drew them into experimenting, and has fragmented microphysics into different technical traditions.

Pages : 320

Book Description
This book presents material that includes introductory reviews of astrophysics, the status of electroweak theories, Higgs searches, and precision tests of the standard model. Recent results on CP violation from CERN's NA48 experiment are discussed, along with the most recent results from the Babar and Belle experiments at the B factories at SLAC in the US and KEK in Japan. Following that are theoretical talks on heavy quark decays and non-perturbative QCD. There are also discussions on QCD results from CERN's LEP and DESY's HERA colliders. Pre-conference presentations cover applications of the field in the environmental and medical domains.

EPS - High Energy Physics '89 PDF Author: R. Fernandez Alvarez-Estrada
Publisher: Elsevier

Pages : 729

Book Description
EPS - High Energy Physics '89 presents the proceeding of the International Europhysics Conference on High Energy physics, held in Madrid, Spain, on September 6–13, 1989. This book outlines several topics on the interface between cosmology/astrophysics and particle physics. Organized into two parts encompassing 181 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the implications of the cosmic light element abundances. This text then examines the various aspects of lattice field theory. Other chapters consider the theoretical evidence of a fundamental length in string theory and outline the main features of the higher order corrections to the heavy quark inclusive cross section. This book discusses as well the theory of heavy quark production in hadron collision. The final chapter deals with the idea of low-energy supersymmetry, which relates the scale of supersymmetry breaking to the origin and stability of the electroweak scale. This book is a valuable resource for astrophysicists, physicists, and scientists.

Book Description
The 1997 International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics was held at the campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Jerusalem Renaissance Hotel, from August 19th to August 25th, 1997. This was the first time that the European Physical Society had its High Energy Physics Conference outside the boundary of Europe. A total of 550 physicists participated in the conference with a total of 250 presentations in the parallel sessions and 26 presentations in the plenary sessions. The Board of the of the High Energy and Particle Physics division (HEPP) of the EPS acted as the Scientific Organizing Committee. The Board acknowl edges the help of the International Advisory Committee as well as that of the Local Organizing Committee. The conference was co-organized by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and by the Weizmann Institute of Science, with important help by physi cists from the Israeli Institute of Technology (Technion) and the Tel Aviv University.
