Pawns of the Game
Author: Joe Black
Publisher: Xlibris US
ISBN: 1503546535
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 289
Book Description
Pawns of the Game is a novel written loosely off the old conspiracy theory of the Illuminati utilizing the mystery system of Free Masonry and that of ancient Egypt’s religiosity to control contemporary societies massive. The historical, archaeological, and biblical material is real, as are the (gospel) quotations and fragments. Contemporary characters are my own creation, but many of the ancillary characters actually exist merely to lend support for realism sake. However, the portraits I paint of them are fictional—in respect to names, things, places and time. The lead characters in the novel are a secret clique of streetwise men who gained possession of the true knowledge that creates the TRINITY of the Illuminati, Freemasons, and ancient Egypt’s star cult religious mystery system—in order to mastermind their own plot to gain economic and political power within society of the city of New York.

The Seabrooks
Author: Peter V. Speziale
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1499079931
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 392
Book Description
"The Seabrooks" is the first book in a three-part saga that I am writing. This three-part saga chronicles and depicts the Seabrook family as they struggle to maintain their position of neutrality in the Revolutionary War. The entire family, which consists of Betty, Henry, and John, is convicted to their well-entrenched views toward the war; that is that they wish for the war to end as quickly and peacefully as possible, and with the least amount of bloodshed and property damage as possible. And most important of all, they want to stay completely out of the entire affair. But they are tested by loyalists and patriots alike, and they have to resist temptations, pressures, and other factors that attempt to sway their opinions and ideologies. That is to say, both loyalists (as well as the British) and patriots want the neutralists to join their side because they both knew that it was the neutralists that held the balance of power, and thus, they held the key to victory. The Seabrooks are subjected to a series of events that test the integrity of their neutrality and their resolve to stay neutral. But eventually, a very significant event impacts the entire family and causes them to reassess their ideologies and political views in regards to the war. The saga focuses on the life of John Seabrook, who is the only son and child of Henry and Betty Seabrook. They are a strong and morally upright family, and they portray a typical and traditional family that was common during the Revolutionary War era. They are members of the roughly one third of the colonial Americans who wished to remain neutral in the war. These "neutralists," as I call them, took on a political view that emphasized not only staying uninvolved throughout the war, but they also desired a swift, bloodless, and peaceful resolution to the conflict; perhaps nowadays, one might refer to them as "pacifists."

Since I Laid My Burden Down
Author: Brontez Purnell
Publisher: The Feminist Press at CUNY
ISBN: 155861432X
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 81
Book Description
An uninhibited portrait of growing up gay in 1980s Alabama: exploring art and sex with “more layered insight than the page count should allow” (Hanif Abdurraqib, MTV News). DeShawn lives a high, creative, and promiscuous life in San Francisco. But when he’s called back to his cramped Alabama hometown for his uncle’s funeral, he’s hit by flashbacks of handsome, doomed neighbors and sweltering Sunday services. Amidst prickly reminders of his childhood, DeShawn ponders family, church, and the men in his life, prompting the question: Who deserves love? A modern American classic, Since I Laid My Burden Down is a raw and searing look into the intersections of memory, Blackness, and queerness. “Performance artist Purnell beautifully captures a personality through introspection and memory in this slim novel . . . a compelling portrait of a particular disaffected kind of gay youth caught between religion, culture, and desire.” —Publishers Weekly “It’s a true novel, chaptered, and bound, that not only holds its own as queer literature, with its unapologetically misanthropic narrative, but also expands upon it.” —San Francisco Chronicle “An antidote to the rigamarole of gay lit.” —Mask Magazine “Slim yet potently realized, with a lot to ponder.” —The Bay Area Reporter “Since I Laid My Burden Down has a fearless (sometimes reckless) humor as Brontez Purnell interrogates what it means to be black, male, queer; a son, an uncle, a lover; Southern, punk, and human. An emotional tightrope walk of a book and an important American story rarely, if ever, told.” —Michelle Tea, author of Castle on the River Vistula
