Behind the Walls
Author: Ella Henderson
Publisher: Page Publishing Inc
ISBN: 1662414277
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 160
Book Description
Behind the Walls: Fifty-Two Weeks and Counting was written to give the reader an inside look at a social economic depravity system existing within the United States, a place where individuals migrate to achieve the American dream. Here in the United States, a country that has the largest prison population in the world, reported as of April 6, 2020, for every 100,000 in population, there are currently 737 inmates locked up (worldpopulationreview.com). If you think that's bad, look at the state of Texas. According to Prison Policy Initiative, for every 100,000 in population, 891 individuals are incarcerated, and this does not include federal prison inmates. And of course, it's no secret that most of the incarcerated population are people of color. The Texas prison system is none other than a business, and though Behind the Walls: Fifty-Two Weeks and Counting does not reflect on the business side of it, it does give the reader an inside look at the community, a community where a different type of social conflict exists. It's a conflict which produces a struggle for power and respect. This conflict not only affects the incarcerated inmate but the correctional officers as well, whose number one goal is to make sure he or she leaves the same way they walked in. Behind the Walls paints a picture of the daily life and struggles from an officer's perspective and will have you asking yourself, "If I was convicted, whether wrongfully or not, could I make it behind the walls?"

Category : Fiction

Book Description
The Sun Behind The Cloud delineates the microscopic history of the colonial encounter between Bhaskararao Bhave of Peshwa dynasty of Naragund kingdom in South India and the authorities of the East India Company around 1857. Exasperated by the Political Agent for South India, Mr. Manson's refusal of permission to adopt a legal heir to his kingdom, he attacks the latter and kills him arousing the anger of the East India Company. He prepares himself to wage a war against the enemy by rallying the like-minded neighbouring kings. But he is betrayed by his own officers and Bhaskararao Bhave is defeated by the army of the East India Company led by Colonel Malcolm. He is caught, imprisoned, tried and sentenced to death by the East India Company. Again to the strange quirk of his fate he escapes from the prison as his cook impersonates him and volunteers to be hanged to death out of his loyalty to the master. Bhaskararao, who is taken to be dead, lives and wanders in disguise. He goes to Nepal and meets Nanasaheb Peshwa, who compliments him for kindling the spark of freedom in India. The novel recreates an important chunk of Indian history of the colonial period and rehabilitates a forgotten hero, who sowed the seeds of freedom and nationalism in the 19th century itself.

The Locked Door: The Secret Room Behind the Kidnap Thriller
Author: Madeleine Watson
Publisher: Madeleine Watson
ISBN: 1651854750
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 315
Book Description
This book is about my kidnap thriller, The Locked Door. It is my second of four novels and none are really novels at all but something far more sinister. The idea was confinement. Why, I didn’t know; I just felt a need to express it. Naturally, I made it into a kidnap thriller. During my writing, I connected with this ‘strand’. This strand grew addictive, compulsive, shameful, deathly and creepy. Little did I realize the source of this strand. Not until the age of 51 when I learned something truly terrible about myself. The précis to The Locked Door reads: “This hostage has a secret. “Gemma would appear to have everything: money, a devoted husband, a lively son, and a fulfilling career. But her life takes a nasty turn when she is kidnapped and trapped in an upstairs room by three thugs demanding a huge ransom from her rich father. “In a bid to escape, she cuts a hole in the bedroom floor. From there, Gemma spies on her kidnappers below. That's when their hostage starts playing games with them. That’s when her spying pulls her into a treacherous psychological game that endangers her sanity.” As the story progressed, the captive’s life began to feel as real as mine. She became like an avatar that I would enter when I craved escapism from my otherwise mundane life. With the terrible truth now known, I have analysed The Locked Door. I am appalled at what I have found. This novel appears to possess a shadow novel beneath the apparent one. During the writing, I was completely oblivious to it. In order to convey the intensity of my other world, I have included illustrations and diary excerpts within this account.
