Advances in Communications-Based Train Control Systems

Advances in Communications-Based Train Control Systems PDF Author: F. Richard Yu
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1482257459
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 270

Book Description
With rapid population explosion, improving rail transit speed and capacity is strongly desirable around the world. Communication-based train control (CBTC) is an automated train control system using high capacity bidirectional train-ground communications to ensure the safe operation of rail vehicles. This book presents the latest advances in CBTC r

Energy-Efficient Train Control

Energy-Efficient Train Control PDF Author: Philip G. Howlett
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1447130847
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 315

Book Description
Rail is potentially a very efficient form of transport, but must be convenient, reliable and cost-effective to compete with road and air transport. Optimal control can be used to find energy-efficient driving strategies for trains. This book describes the train control problem and shows how a solution was found at the University of South Australia. This research was used to develop the Metromiser system, which provides energy-efficient driving advice on suburban trains. Since then, this work has been modified to find practical driving strategies for long-haul trains. The authors describe the history of the problem, reviewing the basic mathematical analysis and relevant techniques of constrained optimisation. They outline the modelling and solution of the problem and finally explain how the fuel consumption can be minimised for a journey, showing the effect of speed limits and track gradients on the optimal driving strategy.

Railway Safety, Reliability, and Security: Technologies and Systems Engineering

Railway Safety, Reliability, and Security: Technologies and Systems Engineering PDF Author: Flammini, Francesco
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 146661644X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 487

Book Description
Human errors, as well as deliberate sabotage, pose a considerable danger to passengers riding on the modern railways and have created disastrous consequences. To protect civilians against both intentional and unintentional threats, rail transportation has become increasingly automated. Railway Safety, Reliability, and Security: Technologies and Systems Engineering provides engineering students and professionals with a collection of state-of-the-art methodological and technological notions to support the development and certification of ‘real-time safety-critical’ railway control systems, as well as the protection of rail transportation infrastructures.
