Josep Pla

Josep Pla PDF Author: Joan Ramon Resina
Publisher: University of Toronto Press
ISBN: 1487514077
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 335

Book Description
Josep Pla is Catalonia’s foremost twentieth-century prose writer. He witnessed and wrote about some of the twentieth-century’s most notable events including the Spanish Civil War and the foundation of the state of Israel. Due to a lack of translations of his work he is only now being discovered by the international audience and will soon join the ranks of major realist writers in world literature. In Josep Pla, Joan Ramon Resina teases out the writer’s deep-seated intellectual concerns and challenges the assumption of Pla as an anti-intellectual. Resina condenses Pla’s forty-seven volumes of work, including travel books, narrative fiction, and history, into eleven thematic units: including time, memory, perception, life, religion, metaphysics, utopia, and self-delusion. Resina acutely explores the writer’s authorial gaze and invites the reader to see the world through the eyes of one of the most underappreciated observers and writers of the twentieth-century.

ISBN:
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 326

Book Description
Following more than two decades of intensive activity, Josep Lluis Mateo is now an architect of international repute. During the 1980s he was primarily active in Catalonya, where he was Director of the magazine Quaderns, but over the last 15 years Mateo's work as both architect and lecturer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich has received due recognition after he won several formidable competitions in Paris. The Hague, Barcelona, Haarlem, Chemnitz and Basle. This monograph is the most comprehensive and up-to-date documentation of his work and encompasses 27 of his most important projects - from urban development in Ullastret and his project for the Paris zoo, to the most recent buildings in Chemnitz and Basle, clearly showing the focus of his interests and the framework within, which Mateo works. An important contribution to the interpretation of his work is undoubtedly the interview by Philip Ursprung.

Book Description
This book provides an overview of the work of Carlos Ferrater, one of the most active and internationally acclaimed Spanish architects working today. Recent projects such as the Fitness Center in Barcelona, the Impiva headquarters in Castellon, and the Movie Studio in Barcelona, represent a new level of architectural brilliance from Ferrater. With the close collaboration of the architect himself, this book has been grouped according to the scale of his projects, from private housing to urban developments. In addition to his architectural practice, Ferrater serves as professor at the Architecture School of Barcelona and has lectured extensively at national and international seminars, congresses, and symposia. He was also the director of the Sixth Biennial of Spanish Architecture.
