The Islamic Interfaith Initiative

The Islamic Interfaith Initiative PDF Author: John Andrew Morrow
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1527574822
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 475

Book Description
When ISIS reared its ugly head in the last decade, God had already prepared a “vaccine” against the contagion of extremism that created it: the re-discovery of the Covenants of the Prophet Muhammad with the Peoples of the Book, which firmly place the actions of groups like ISIS under the curse of God and His Prophet. This was largely due to the exhaustive scholarship of Dr John Andrew Morrow, leading to the publication in 2013 of The Covenants of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of the World. Not only was this a scholarly triumph, but it also inaugurated an international, interfaith movement throughout the Muslim world known as the Covenants Initiative, which culminated in the acquittal of the Christian woman Asia Bibi on charges of blasphemy by the Pakistani Supreme Court in 2018. The book was quoted by the justices in their decision. This volume of speeches, articles and interviews is a chronicle of the first, activist phase of the Covenants Initiative, proving that socially committed scholarship is alive and well in the twenty-first century.

Iraqi Refugees in the United States

Iraqi Refugees in the United States PDF Author: Ken R. Crane
Publisher: NYU Press
ISBN: 1479873942
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 205

Book Description
How Iraqi refugees navigate life, belonging, and exclusion in America The US invasion of Iraq in 2003 caused the largest forced migration in the Middle East since 1948, with millions of people fleeing to Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Iran, European Union, Australia and the United States. In Iraqi Refugees in the United States, Ken R. Crane explores the uphill climb faced by Iraqi refugees who have sought belonging in a country engaged in an ongoing War on Terror. Drawing on numerous interviews and fieldwork, Crane explores the diverse experiences of a community of Iraqi refugees, showing how they have struggled to negotiate their place in the wake of mass displacement. He highlights the promise of belonging, as well as their many painful encounters with exclusion. Ultimately, Crane provides a window into the complexities of what “becoming American” means for Iraqi refugees, even as they are perceived by other Americans as “security threats.” As debates about immigration and refugee status continue to play out in headlines and the courts, Iraqi Refugees in the United States provides important insight into the global refugee crisis.

Behind Enemy Lies

Behind Enemy Lies PDF Author: Patrick Cockburn
Publisher: Verso Books
ISBN: 1839760419
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
In this urgent and timely book, Patrick Cockburn writes the first draft of the history of the current crisis in the Middle East. Here he charts the period from the recapture of Mosul in 2017 to Turkey's attack on Kurdish territory in November 2019, and recounts the new phase in the wars of disintegration that have plagued the region, leading to the assassination of Iranian General Sulemani. Cockburn offers panoramic on-the-ground analysis as well as a lifetime's study of the region. As author of The Rise of Islamic State, and the Age of Jihad, he has proved to be leading, critical commentator of US intervention and the chaos it has wrecked/ And here he shows how, since Trump entered the White House promising an end to the Forever War, peace appears a distant possibility with the continuation of conflict in Syria, Saudi Arabia's violent intervention in the Yemen, the fall of the Kurds, riots in Baghdad, and the continued aggression towards Iran. While ISIS has been defeated, it is not clear whether it has disappeared from the region. Trump's policies has appeared to pour petrol on the flames, emboldening the other superpowers involved in the proxy wars. Following the collapse of the deal with Iran, and the threat of war crimes, is a new balance of power possible?

Christ in the Night of Glory

Christ in the Night of Glory PDF Author: Sahba Publications

Book Description
A book narrating the story of Ayatollah Khamenei’s visit to homes of Christian martyrs is translated into English to provide international readers with the chance to read the interesting events in the meetings. Since coming to office as president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei has been frequently visiting the families of Iranian martyrs. While the majority of the meetings have been with the families of Muslim martyrs, a considerable part of it has been more significant as it has been about Christian martyrs. As two major religious minorities in Iran, Armenians and Assyrians have also been among Revolutionary demonstrators who toppled Shah and also among combatants who bravely fought against Saddam Hussein’s army during eight years of war to defend the Islamic Republic of Iran. About a year ago, a book titled as “Christ in the Night of Glory” was published in Iran which narrated the stories of several meetings of Ayatollah Khamenei with families of Christian martyrs. The book tells the story of visits made by Ayatollah Khamenei since 1984 when he was president of the time until early 2011 to the time of his leadership. The interesting point about the meetings is the surprising nature of it and the reaction of hosts when they realize that the Leader will go to their homes in few minutes. Each story begins with a short introduction of the martyr and then comes to the visit and the conversations made between the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the martyr’s family members. This narrative theme actually makes the book more interesting and makes it a must-read. Now, nearly a year after its publication, and with Christmas and New Year time, and after a recent visit by Leader of the Revolution to an Assyrian martyr’s home, a translation of the book into English is published. “We cannot describe the incredible atmosphere of these intimate, affectionate, kind and emotional meetings in a few words; one must read them all. We may, however, say that the readers often find, when reading them, that tears fill their eyes: they are not tears of pity but of human love, admiration, empathy and appreciation,” describes English translator of the book Fazlollah Nikayin, continuing that “the other outstanding feature of these meetings is that most often the grief-stricken atmosphere in the house gradually changes and the bereaved family members, especially the mothers of the martyrs, are really consoled and feel a greater pride for their sons who fought and died for a patriotic, rightful cause.” According to the publisher, this translation into English from the original Persian will be sent to Armenia, Lebanon, Europe and the USA for the further knowledge of Armenians (and Assyrians) who were living in Iran since ancient times. Meanwhile, a number of the narrations and stories of the book along with their photos can be read on the website of it at sahbabooks.com.
