Analysis of Liquid-hydrogen Storage Problems for Unmanned Nuclear-powered Mars Vehicles
Author: R. J. Brun
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 1
Book Description
Tankage, nuclear shielding, and hydrogen heatinput problems are investigated for three unmanned nuclear vehicles intended for probing in the vicinity of Mars and landing freight on Mars. Tank geometry, tank and supporting-structure weight, and tank protection from meteoroids are discussed. The size and weight of the nuclear shield as required by a prescribed allowable dose and/or the heat input to the hydrogen are determined. The hydrogen heat input includes nuclear, onboard thermal, solar, and planetary sources. (Author).

Analysis of Thermal-protection Systems for Space-vehicle Cryogenic-propellant Tanks
Author: George R. Smolak
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aeronautics
Languages : en
Pages : 100
Book Description
Analytical techniques are presented that permit the calculation of heat-transfer rates with various thermal-protection systems for liquid-cryogenic-propellant tanks subjected to on-board, solar, and planetary heat fluxes. The effectiveness of these protection systems in reducing propellant heating is shown both for ideal heat-transfer models and for a simplified hydrogen-oxygen terminal state used for typical Mars missions.
