Analogy Between Mass and Heat Transfer with Turbulent Flow

Analogy Between Mass and Heat Transfer with Turbulent Flow PDF Author: Edmund E. Callaghan
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Heat
Languages : en
Pages : 724

Book Description
An analysis of combined heat and mass transfer from a flat plate has been made in terms of Prandtl's simpified physical concept of the turbulent boundary layer. The results of the analysis show that tor conditioins of reasonably small heat and mass transfer, the ratio of the mass- and heat-transfer coefficients is dependent on the Reynolds number of the boundary layer, the Prandtl number of the medium of diffusion, and the Schmidt number of the diffusing fluid in the medium of diffusion. For the particular case of water evaporating into air, the ratio of mass-transfer coefficient to heat-transfer coefficient is found to be slightly greater than unity.

Momentum Transfer in Fluids

Momentum Transfer in Fluids PDF Author: Wm.H. Corcoran
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323151922
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 407

Book Description
Momentum Transfer in Fluids provides information pertinent to fluid mechanics. This book discusses several topics related to the movement of fluids, including boundary-layer analysis, statistical treatment of turbulence, as well as laminar and turbulent shear-flow. Comprised of seven chapters, this book starts with an overview of the physical nature of momentum and describes the application of this concept to systems of variable weight, which are useful in the prediction of the physical behavior of fluids in motion. This text then explores the fundamental properties and the macroscopic aspects of turbulent flow. Other chapters present the significance and utility of mixing length and other macroscopic turbulence parameters. This book discusses as well the prediction of the velocity and friction as functions of position in the flowing stream. The final chapter deals with the qualitative aspects of boundary flows for compressible and incompressible fluids. This book is a valuable resource for scientists and chemical engineers.

High Temperature Gas Dynamics

High Temperature Gas Dynamics PDF Author: Tarit K. Bose
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662077620
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 363

Book Description
A class-tested primer for students, scientists and engineers who would like to have a basic understanding of the physics and the behaviour of high-temperature gases. It is a valuable tool for astrophysicists as well. The first chapters treat the basic principles of quantum and statistical mechanics and how to derive thermophysical properties from them. Special topics are included that are rarely found in other textbooks, such as the thermophysical and transport properties of multi-temperature gases and a novel method to compute radiative transfer.

Fluid Mechanics and Transfer Processes

Fluid Mechanics and Transfer Processes PDF Author: J. M. Kay
Publisher: CUP Archive
ISBN: 9780521316248
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 632

Book Description
This textbook deals with the fundamental principles of fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer. The basic equations governing the convective transfer by fluid motion of matter, energy and momentum, and the transfer of the same properties by diffusion of molecular motion, are presented at the outset. These concepts are then applied systematically to the study of fluid dynamics in an engineering context and to the parallel investigation of heat and mass transfer processes. The influence of viscosity and the dominant role of turbulence in fluid motion are emphasised. Individual chapters are concerned with the important subjects of boundary layers, flow in pipes and ducts, gas dynamics, and flow in turbo-machinery and of a liquid with a free surface. Later chapters cover some of the special types of flow and transfer process encountered in chemical engineering applications, including two-phase flow, condensation, evaporation, flow in packed beds and fluidized solids.

Heat and Mass Transfer

Heat and Mass Transfer PDF Author: G. S. Sawhney
Publisher: I. K. International Pvt Ltd
ISBN: 9380578393
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 486

Book Description
Written with the third-year engineering students of undergraduate level in mind, this well set out textbook explains the fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer. Written in question-answer form, the book is precise and easy to understand. The book presents an exhaustive coverage of the theory, definitions, formulae and examples which are well supported by plenty of diagrams and problems in order to make the underlying principles more comprehensive. In the present second edition, the book has been thoroughly revised and enlarged. The chapter on steady state one-dimensional heat conduction has been modified to include problems on two-dimensional heat conduction. Finite heat difference method of solving such problems has been covered. Modification has also been included in the text as per the suggestions obtained from various sources. Additional typical problems based on the examination papers of various technical universities have been included with solutions for easy understanding by the students.
