Baroque Impressions
Author: Kearstin Jacobson
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780368020360
Category : Art, Modern
Languages : en
Pages : 124
Book Description
Joseph Nash's watercolors 'The Rubens Room' and 'The Van Dyck Room' give us a look back into the 1848 interiors of these Windsor Castle rooms. At that time, the Rubens room held Queen Victoria's collection of paintings by Peter Paul Rubens and the Van Dyck room held her collection of paintings by Anthony Van Dyck. The 2018 exhibition at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana was sparked by the paintings shown in Nash's watercolors, but with a twist. The exhibit featured lithographs, etchings, and engravings created by various artists who were inspired by Ruben and Van Dyck paintings. "Reproductive engravings, sometimes designed and crafted centuries after the original painting's creation, form a unique kind of publicity and propaganda for artists, patrons, and connoisseurs. Featuring more than 30 etchings and engravings, the exhibit showcases the remarkable, innovative craft of printmaking after major master works. The exhibition, part of the graduate course 'Origins of the Modern Art Museum', was curated, designed, and created for the space." (quote from Publisher) This book beautifully shows off this exhibition, contrasting original masterpieces with the skillfully created black and white prints which were crafted later.

Author: George R. Goldner
Publisher: Getty Publications
ISBN: 0892362197
Category : Drawing
Languages : en
Pages : 374
Book Description
The Getty Museum's collection of drawings was begun in 1981 with the purchase of a Rembrandt nude and has since become an important repository of European works from the fifteenth through the nineteenth century. As in the first volume devoted to the collection (published in 1988 in English and Italian editions), the text is here organized first by national school, then alphabetically by artist, with individual works arranged chronologically. For each drawing, the authors provide a discussion of the work's style, dating, iconography, and relationship to other works, as well as provenance and a complete bibliography.
