Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812795154
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 895

Book Description
This volume is a collection of invited talks, oral contributions and poster contributions devoted to advances in gamma-ray spectroscopy of various capture reactions. In agreement with the trend of previous meetings in the series, the symposium paid special attention to theoretical and experimental studies of nuclear structure at low energies and to nuclear astrophysics. Among the other topics covered are: statistical properties of nuclei and other quantum many-body systems, fundamental physics, nuclear data, practical application of capture reactions, and new techniques and facilities for capture gamma-ray spectroscopy. Contents: Nuclear Structure; Nuclear Reactions; Nuclear Astrophysics; Statistical Properties of Nuclei; Experimental Facilities; Nuclear Data; Applications; Fundamental Physics. Readership: Graduate students and researchers in nuclear physics.

Recent Progress in Few-Body Physics

Recent Progress in Few-Body Physics PDF Author: N. A. Orr
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030323579
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 968

Book Description
Few-body physics covers a rich and wide variety of phenomena, ranging from the very lowest energy scales of atomic and molecular physics to high-energy particle physics. The papers contained in the present volume provide an apercu of recent progress in the field from both the theoretical and experimental perspectives and are based on work presented at the “22nd International Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics”. This book is geared towards academics and graduate students involved in the study of systems which present few-body characteristics and those interested in the related mathematical and computational techniques.

Nuclear Physics

Nuclear Physics PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309173663
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 222

Book Description
Dramatic progress has been made in all branches of physics since the National Research Council's 1986 decadal survey of the field. The Physics in a New Era series explores these advances and looks ahead to future goals. The series includes assessments of the major subfields and reports on several smaller subfields, and preparation has begun on an overview volume on the unity of physics, its relationships to other fields, and its contributions to national needs. Nuclear Physics is the latest volume of the series. The book describes current activity in understanding nuclear structure and symmetries, the behavior of matter at extreme densities, the role of nuclear physics in astrophysics and cosmology, and the instrumentation and facilities used by the field. It makes recommendations on the resources needed for experimental and theoretical advances in the coming decade.

Parity Violation In Atoms And In Polarized Electron Scattering

Parity Violation In Atoms And In Polarized Electron Scattering PDF Author: Marie-anne Bouchiat
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814544086
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 550

Book Description
In the last few years there has been considerable progress in improving the accuracy of parity violation experiments in electron scattering at high energy and in atomic physics. Recent results are a challenge to the standard electroweak theory and our understanding of hadron structure. This book is an extensive review of the advances in this field. The theoretical framework is presented at a pedagogical level, experiments and future projects are reviewed, and the results and their interpretation are discussed in depth.

Neutron Resonance Parameters

Neutron Resonance Parameters PDF Author: Herwig Schopper
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540878653
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 5078

Book Description
Parameters of neutron resonances are finding increasing interest, not only for scientific problems like the understanding of astrophysical processes but even more so for applications. For the construction and the safety of conventional nuclear reactors such data are essential and for new developments like the thorium-uranium cycle or for nuclear waste transmutation they are indispensible. Since the last publication of neutron resonance parameters at Landolt-Börnstein in 2004, the quality and precision of the data has been considerably improved, partly by the operation of new neutron spectrometers, e.g., the CERN time-of-flight facility recently put into operation and also by the use of new carefully designed neutron capture detectors. Volume I/24 contains neutron resonance parameters for the nuclear levels of 356 nuclei with Z ranging from 1 to 98 compiled by two eminent experts in the field. Again a considerable effort was made in comparing data from different sources in order to solve some previous discrepancies and establish 'best values', one of the main characteristics of Landoldt- Börnstein publications. In order to compare the data from different sources a comparison of the various experimental installations has been given. In view of the large amount of data the parameters for only the most important resonances are given in the printed version. However, the data for all resonances are available online at www.springerlink.com (DOI: 10.1007/978-3-540-87866-7). Neutron resonance parameters of many nuclei were previously published by Landolt-Börnstein in Volumes I/16B and I/16C.
