Practical Spectrographic Analysis (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: W. F. Meggers

Book Description
Excerpt from Practical Spectrographic Analysis The effects of capacity and self-inductance on spark spectra are of considerable practical importance and can be manipulated in ways which give the condensed spark method of analysis certain advantages over all other methods. In the first place, a spark with capacity in the circuit will bring out not only the lines of the conducting metals but also the lines of metalloids and halides if such elements are present. Some of these nonmetallic elements show no spectrum under any other conditions except in Plucker tubes or similar-apparatus. Book Description
Excerpt from Lines in the Arc Spectra of Elements Arranged in the Order of Their Wavelengths From Wavelength 7950 to Wavelength 2200 Under Column 2 will be found the approximate brightness of the line as occurring in the spectrum of the undiluted element, the scale of brightness being arranged with a maximum intensity of 10. In the case of substances in which only a small proportion of any element is present, only certain lines from that element will appear in the resulting spectrum, and the more persistent of these (which are not always the brightest in the spectrum of the element) are denoted by an asterisk in the case of those elements on which investigations in this direction have been published. A Spectroscopic Study of the Spark Spectrum in Various Gases at High Pressure

A Spectroscopic Study of the Spark Spectrum in Various Gases at High Pressure PDF Author: William Ballantyne Anderson

Pages : 46

Book Description
Excerpt from A Spectroscopic Study of the Spark Spectrum in Various Gases at High Pressure: A Thesis Submitted for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, University of Wisconsin, 1906 The present work was undertaken in the hope that some of the questions involved could be answered, and the facts already known correlated, by a study of the effect produced upon the spectrum by separately varying through wide ranges each of the quantities connected with the spark or its circuit. Work upon the spark spectrum may be divided into two parts (1) the study of change in the width and character of its lines, as well as other changes in its general appearance, and (2) the study of shift, or change of wave-length of its lines. Recent investigations in which spectroscopic apparatus of high dispersive power was used have been mainly concerned with shift, and have discussed rather incidentally the character of the spectrum. The present research deals with both, but principally with the character of the spectrum and its relation to the character of the spark.
