The book examines the unprecedented experimentation that occurred in a diverse range of fields, including art, dance, music, television, fashion and advertising, among others. Over forty writers present their reflections of the national scene. The book also includes the interviews of many iconic figures from the 1970s. The catalyst for the book was an exhibition by the same title held at Amin Gulgee Gallery in March 2016. Co-curators Niilofur Farrukh and Amin Gulgee commissioned 47 artists of different ages to create work inspired by this pivotal decade. These visual acts of remembering and reflecting are included in the book as well. Pakistan's Radioactive Decade serves as a testimony of the times. Voices of the nation have shared their memories of this vibrant and turbulent decade-an era which older generations reminisce over and the younger generation strives to comprehend. The Mystical Vision of Existence in Classical Islam PDF Author: Gerhard Böwering
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 3110837056
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 297

Book Description
The Studies in the History and Culture of the Islamic Orient (STIO) is the series of “Supplements” to the journal Der Islam. Both are published by the Section for the History and Culture of the Near East in the Asian-African Institute of the University of Hamburg. The Section was established in 1908, before the foundation of the University of Hamburg. Under its first Director, C.H. Becker, it was the first academic centre in Germany in which teaching and research concentrated on the historical and cultural aspects of the Islamic world, and not just on philological issues. Many of Germany’s leading authorities in Islamic Studies have studied and/or taught here. The “Supplements” have maintained the same high quality and met the same high demands as the journal Der Islam and have published numerous studies on the history and culture of the Islamic world which have represented milestones in their relevant fields. The “New Series” of Supplements appearing since 2004 carries this tradition forward and provides a platform for publishing studies on the history and culture of the Islamic world from the beginnings of Islam up to the present day.

Publisher: Lake Forest College Press
ISBN: 9781941423967
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 159

Book Description
A poetic roman à clef, gauguin's notebook follows an anonymous protagonist--who keeps a diary while reading through Paul Gauguin's Tahiti--as he travels clandestinely across the U.S.-Mexico border and in the occupied West Bank of Palestine. What begins as a search for a strange angel quickly descends into the mire of Internet forums, where narco terror, soldier porn, and blue stars give the impression that amid forced immigration and self-exile there's also something searing, tragic, and funny when what you love gets irrevocably lost. The winner of the 2015 Madeleine P. Plonsker Emerging Writers Residency Prize, gauguin's notebook was selected by the acclaimed poet and translator Eleni Sikelianos, author most recently of You Animal Machine (The Golden Greek) (Coffee House Press, 2014) and The Loving Detail of the Living & the Dead (Coffee House Press, 2013).
