The General Theory of Alternating Current Machines

The General Theory of Alternating Current Machines PDF Author: Bernard Adkins
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 148992907X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 294

Book Description
The book on The General Theory of Electrical Machines, by B. Adkins, which was published in 1957, has been well received, as a manual containing the theories on which practical methods of calculating machine performance can be based, and as a text-book for advanced students. Since 1957, many important developments have taken place in the practical application of electrical machine theory. The most important single factor in the development has been the increasing availability of the digital computer, which was only beginning to be used in the solution of machine and power system problems in 1957. Since most of the recent development, particularly that with which the authors have been concerned, has related to a. c. machines, the present book, which is in other respects an up-to-date version of the earlier book, deals primarily with a. c. machines. The second chapter on the primitive machine does deal to some extent with the d. c. machine, because the cross-field d. c. generator servesas an introduction to the two-axis theory and can be used to provide a simple explanation of some of the mathematical methods. The equations also apply directly to a. c. commutator machines. The use of the word 'general' in the title has been criticized. It was never intended to imply that the treatment was comprehen sive in the sense that every possible type of machine and problem was dealt with.

A New System of Alternating Current Motors and Transformers and Other Essays

A New System of Alternating Current Motors and Transformers and Other Essays PDF Author: Nikola Tesla
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1625588658
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 37

Book Description
Nikola Tesla was a genius who revolutionized how the world looks at electricity. During college his professors explained that it was impossible to design an engine without commutators or brushes. Tesla was unconvinced that such was necessary or even particularly desirable. It was then that Tesla began his work on the rotating field motor that ultimately gave birth to the modern age. In May of 1888, Tesla delivered his lecture "A New System of Alternating Current Motors and Transformers" before The American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the world has never been the same.

Alternating Current – Social Innovation in Community Energy

Alternating Current – Social Innovation in Community Energy PDF Author: Arwen Colell
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3658323078
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 355

Book Description
Community energy projects give their own answers to the challenges of energy system change: They are social innovations. By building new relations between local economies, communities and technical infrastructures, these projects not only change the energy system but also respective power structures. Drawing on case studies from Germany, Denmark and Scotland, this book shows the importance of community ties, and shared symbols for successful processes of transformation and develops recommendations for policy decision-makers.

Alternating Currents

Alternating Currents PDF Author: Sandro Ronca
Publisher: Sandro Ronca
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 171

Book Description
This volume exposes and develops the essential topics for understanding the physical foundations and calculation methods of alternating current circuits. The text is a useful tool for the acquisition of skills necessary for professionals as well as students of Electrical and Electronic Technologies, also representing a preparatory resource for university courses. Specifically, it is composed of the first six chapters of the larger work: "From Alternating Current to the Fourier Transform" and is recommended for those who intend to limit themselves to the study or review of only the aspects relating to the steady state of single-phase alternating current systems. The maximum possible self-sufficiency was one of the guiding elements in the conception of this work, with references and detailed explanations of the most critical aspects of the subject, with the aim of making the reader as autonomous as possible and quickly. Knowledge of the basic concepts relating to direct current networks and the possession of elementary notions of electromagnetism are considered prerequisites for tackling this text, but as regards the topic of alternating currents, as mentioned, the text is substantially self-sufficient. For each chapter there is a certain number of examples and for all there are verification problems. 1 SINUSOIDAL ELECTRICAL QUANTITIES 2 SINUSOIDS, PHASORS AND COMPLEX NUMBERS 3 IMPEDANCE AND REACTANCE 4 ADMITTANCE AND AC NETWORKS 5 RESONANCE 6 ELECTRICAL POWER IN AC SYSTEMS SANDRO RONCA After studying Physics at the University of Padua, he dedicated himself to teaching Electrical and Electronic Technologies and Computer Science at Technical and Technological Institutes, paying attention to the didactic aspects of the subject. He has studied computer networks in depth and designed, at the request of industrial associations, courses for systems engineers and IT security workers.
