An Arkansas History for Young People PDF Author: T. Harri Baker
Publisher: University of Arkansas Press
ISBN: 9781557287236
Category : Juvenile Nonfiction
Languages : en
Pages : 236

Book Description
ADOPTED BY THE STATE OF ARKANSAS FOR 2003. Once again, the State of Arkansas has adopted An Arkansas History for Young People as an official textbook for junior-high-school-Arkansas-history classes. This third edition incorporates the fruits of new research and of extensive consultations with teachers, curriculum supervisors, and students themselves. It includes many new features while preserving popular and useful aspects of previous editions. This edition has an entirely new format, clear and friendly to the student reader. The text has been re-set in double-column pages, with wider margins and more white space setting off text and illustrations. A preview section at the beginning of each chapter (What to Look For) and study questions at the end now guide students' reading. Vocabulary words appear in boldface in the text and then are listed with definitions at the end of each chapter. The updated text incorporates new material on the Clinton presidency, the Huckabee governorship, term limits, the 2000 census, demographic changes, recent scholarship on Arkansas history, updated terminology, and corrections of factual errors. Sidebars still highlight special material, and the many illustrations appear in full color and in black and white.

Publisher: University of Arkansas Press
ISBN: 1557289298
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 188

Book Description
Season of the Gar is a fang-infested, monster-headed, armor-plated romp through the prehistoric swamps and murky rivers of America’s most feared and demonized fish. Follow Mark Spitzer on his lengthy and often frustrating quest from Texas and Louisiana, Missouri, and Arkansas to catch his own gar. Read about his sometimes bizarre angling adventures in search of this air-breathing freshwater giant (up to ten feet in length and well over three hundred pounds) as he separates fact from fiction. Spitzer draws on folklore, science, history, his own pet gar, and even gar recipes to tell this unique and exciting literary eco-tale about a fish that has inspired imaginations for centuries, a fish many have hated, a fish many have thrown on the shore to die.

The Arkansas Regulators

The Arkansas Regulators PDF Author: Charles Adams
Publisher: Berghahn Books
ISBN: 1789201381
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 426

Book Description
The Arkansas Regulators is a rousing tale of frontier adventure, first published in German in 1846, but virtually lost to English readers for well over a century. Written in the tradition of James Fenimore Cooper, but offering a much darker and more violent image of the American frontier, this was the first novel produced by Friedrich Gerstäcker, who would go on to become one of Germany’s most famous and prolific authors. A crucial piece of a nineteenth-century transatlantic literary tradition, this long-awaited translation and scholarly edition of the novel offers a startling revision of the frontier myth from a European perspective.
