Advances in Ionospheric Mapping by Numerical Methods
Author: William B. Jones
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Ionosphere
Languages : en
Pages : 84
Book Description
Paper describes recent progress made at ITSA (formerly CRPL) to improve numerical methods for mapping and predicting ionospheric characteristics used in telecommunication. Two major problems are considered; (1) tendency of maps to smooth out physical properties of the ionosphere, particularly at low latitudes and (2) ambiguous values at geographic poles and resulting distortions in immediate surroundings. The second problem is overcome by means of a universal time analysis. Significant improvement is made in the first problem by the use of a modified magnetic dip coordinate. A general description is given of the new procedures for forming numerical maps, including a number of illustrations. Also included are a discussion of the use of numerical maps in the revised form and a Fortran Program for evaluating numerical maps of ionospheric characteristics and for calculating the MUF(SERO)F2 and MUF(4000)F2.

Ionospheric Prediction and Forecasting
Author: Bruno Zolesi
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642384307
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 244
Book Description
This book describes how to predict and forecast the state of planet Earth’s ionosphere under quiet and disturbed conditions in terms of dynamical processes in the weakly ionized plasma media of the upper atmosphere and their relation to available modern measurements and modelling techniques. It explains the close relationship between the state of the media and the radio wave propagation conditions via this media. The prediction and forecasting algorithms, methods and models are oriented towards providing a practical approach to ionospherically dependent systems design and engineering. Proper understanding of the ionosphere is of fundamental practical importance because it is an essential part of telecommunication and navigation systems that use the ionosphere to function or would function much better in its nonappearance on the Earth and on any planet with an atmosphere.

Space Weather Impact on GNSS Performance
Author: Vladislav Demyanov
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031158741
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 376
Book Description
This book addresses problems of GNSS performance support under geomagnetic storms and solar radio bursts. It analyses both physical and radio-engineering sources of GNSS performance deterioration caused by geomagnetic storms, solar radio bursts and peculiarities of the polar and equatorial ionosphere. The book takes into consideration both standalone GNSS and differential GNSS. Based on experimental data analysis, it presents a systematic approach to maintaining reliable GNSS performance despite the Space Weather impacts. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable resource for GNSS users and equipment developers, as well as researchers and students whose work involves GNSS remote sensing, surveying, navigation, and related disciplines.
