Book Description
Excerpt from A Practical Treatise on the Diseases of Women This work was undertaken with the conviction that a treatise, such as that which the Author has aimed to prepare, was needed as a text-book for the American student and a book of reference for the busy practitioner. N O department of medicine has made greater advances within the last few years than Gynecology; yet the record of its pro gress is, for the most part, to be found only in special mono graphs, journals, transactions of societies, &c., which are inac cessible to the mass of the profession in this country. It has, therefore, seemed to the author that a volume which should, within a limited space, present the latest aspect Of the subject in a systematic form, could scarcely fail to prove useful, while his position for the last thirteen years as a teacher in this depart ment has encouraged him in the hope that his familiarity with the needs of the student may, to some extent, have fitted him to undertake the task. A Treatise on the Diseases of Women PDF Author: Palmer Findley

Pages : 1042

Book Description
Excerpt from A Treatise on the Diseases of Women: For Students and Practitioners This book is the natural outgrowth of the author's Diagnosis of Diseases of Women. Much that was contained in the former work has been revised, the subjects have been reclassified, and more than an equal amount of text and illustrations has been added for the purpose of making a complete text-book on the subject of diseases of women. It has been the endeavor of the author to present the subject in detail without encumbering the text with needless repetitions. With this object in View, separate chapters are devoted to the subjects of N on operative Methods of Treatment, Hygiene and Dress, Preparation of Patient for Operation, Preparation of Operating Room, Field of Operation and Surgical Utensils, Choice of Anesthetics, Diet, Post operative Complications and Care of Patients after Operation, and frequent references are made to these subjects throughout the text. An effort has been made to give full scope to the discussion of conservative methods of treatment, such as douches, baths, exercise, massage, diet, dress, and tampons. The author is of the opinion that the non-operative methods of treatment of diseases of women have not received their due share of consideration In text-books and in practice which they rightly deserve. The subject of diagnosis has been placed on an anatomical basis, both macroscopic and microscopic, for' it is preeminently true of diseases of women that the making of a diagnosis is in large part the recognition of the morbid anatomy. Treatise on the Diseases of Women

Treatise on the Diseases of Women PDF Author: Lydia Estes Pinkham
Publisher: Good Press
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 87

Book Description
The following book is an advertorial written for Lydia Pinkham's Remedies—a herbal-alcoholic "women's tonic" for menstrual and menopausal problems. Interestingly enough, though medical experts dismissed it as a quack remedy, the products are still on sale today in a modified form. This advertorial is one part of the aggressive marketing technique that her brand is known for. Long, promotional copy would dramatize "women's weakness", "hysteria" and other themes commonly referenced at the time. Pinkham urged women to write to her personally, and she would maintain the correspondence in order to expose the customer to more persuasive claims for the remedy.
