Book Description
Excerpt from A Short History of St. Michael's Church: Germantown The site chosen for this church was on the corner of Coulter and Wayne streets, but the enterprise never got any further than the laying of the corner-stone. Various difficulties prevented its completion. At this meeting there were present Rev. Mr. Hammond, Messrs. Samuel Cox, John M. Gummey, H. A. Shackleford, George C. Lambdin, and Henry R. Gummey. After the meeting was organized, a letter was read from Miss Elizabeth C. Morris, as follows: - "Whereas, my friend and pastor, the Rev. J. Pinckney Hammond, has stated to me that it is his earnest wish to organize in the neighbourhood of High Street, a new Parish, to belong to the Communion of the Protestant Episcopal Church, and to build a church on the Free Seat principle; and whereas, it is my sincere desire to aid in carrying out so laudable an undertaking; I do hereby promise to give, in aid of the said object, a Lot, on the southeast side of the said High Street, having a front on High Street of not less than 150 feet, and a depth of about 120 feet. Book Description
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle! Throughout salvation history, Saint Michael the Archangel has appeared when God's people needed spiritual protection, healing, and victory. Today, many faithful still turn to him for assistance, and parishes across the world pray to him to defend our Church. But what do we really know about Saint Michael? In Saint Michael the Archangel you'll discover the fascinating "biography" of the angel whose mission from God is to do battle against Satan and all the evil spirits. Weaving together Scripture, history, papal documents, and popular devotion, author James Day fills in the gaps of our knowledge about Saint Michael, revealing the impact the mighty defender has on individuals, the Church, and the world. Saint Michael the Archangel also highlights the main shrines dedicated to Saint Michael, and includes the text of prayers, hymns, and poems written to honor him. ABOUT THE AUTHOR James Day is a frequent contributor to Catholic Exchange, Crisis, and Catholic World Report, and is the author of Father Benedict: The Spiritual and Intellectual Legacy of Pope Benedict XVI. Rebuilt

Rebuilt PDF Author: Michael White
Publisher: Ave Maria Press
ISBN: 1594713871
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
Drawing on the wisdom gleaned from thriving mega-churches and innovative business leaders while anchoring their vision in the Eucharistic center of Catholic faith, Fr. Michael White and lay associate Tom Corcoran present the compelling and inspiring story to how they brought their parish back to life. Rebuilt: Awakening the Faithful, Reaching the Lost, and Making Church Matter is a story of stopping everything and changing focus. When their parish reached a breaking point, White and Corcoran asked themselves how they could make the Church matter to Catholics, and they realized the answer was at the heart of the Gospel. Their faithful response not only tripled their weekend mass attendance, but also yielded increased giving, flourishing ministries, and a vibrant, solidly Catholic spiritual revival. White and Corcoran invite all Catholic leaders to share the vision, borrow their strategies, and rebuild their own parishes. They offer a wealth of guidance for anyone with the courage to hear them.
