Book Description
Excerpt from A Peep Into Uncle Tom's Cabin: With an Address From Mrs. Harriet Beecher Stowe, to the Children of England and America Dear Children of England and America, A kind friend has prepared for you this little book, from "Uncle Tom's Cabin," and has requested of the author to say a few words, by way of preface. Well, then, let her tell you how this story came into the world. Long before it was ever written down at all, it was told to a circle of children, and then, as fast as it was told to them, it was written down; and there was a great deal of laughing and crying among these children, you may be sure, and a great deal of hurrying that it might be got through with. So you see the story belongs to children very properly. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Cambridge Companion to the Literature of the American Renaissance

The Cambridge Companion to the Literature of the American Renaissance PDF Author: Christopher N. Phillips
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1108369030
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 275

Book Description
The American Renaissance has been a foundational concept in American literary history for nearly a century. The phrase connotes a period, as well as an event, an iconic turning point in the growth of a national literature and a canon of texts that would shape American fiction, poetry, and oratory for generations. F. O. Matthiessen coined the term in 1941 to describe the years 1850–1855, which saw the publications of major writings by Hawthorne, Melville, Emerson, Thoreau, and Whitman. This Companion takes up the concept of the American Renaissance and explores its origins, meaning, and longevity. Essays by distinguished scholars move chronologically from the formative reading of American Renaissance authors to the careers of major figures ignored by Matthiessen, including Stowe, Douglass, Harper, and Longfellow. The volume uses the best of current literary studies, from digital humanities to psychoanalytic theory, to illuminate an era that reaches far beyond the Civil War and continues to shape our understanding of American literature.

Book Description
VOLUME I - MAIN HISTORY BOOK: Simon and Elizabeth (Mueller) Walck lived in southern Bavaria during the middle of the 1600s. Their son, Johannes, migrated from Bavaria to Wurttemberg sometime between 1668 and 1702. Their grandson, Hans Michel Walck and his wife Frederica Esther (Eisen), emigrated to America in 1732 from the little village of Waldangelloch in Wurttemberg. They had five Wallick offspring near York, Pennsylvania, between 1735 and 1745. Three of these went on to have many Wallick descendants. This is the story of those descendants as they spread-out all-over America.
