The second volume of The Oxford History of British & Irish Catholicism traces the fortunes of Catholic communities in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland across a period of great uncertainty and change. From the outset of the Civil Wars in 1641 to the Jacobite rising of 1745, Catholics in the three kingdoms were varied in their responses to tumultuous events and tantalising opportunities. Cervantes in Seventeenth-century England garners well over a thousand English references to Cervantes and his works, thus providing the fullest and most intriguing early English picture ever made of the writings of Spain's greatest writer. John Dryden was the greatest writer of Restoration England. These volumes are the third and fourth volumes in a five-volume edition of Dryden's poems and result from a complete reappraisal of the canon, text and context of his work. The modernised text has been prepared from a fresh examination of the early printed editions and takes account of the large number of manuscript copies which survived. These volumes cover the poems which Dryden published between 1686-1696.
