The Secret Life of a Fool is Andrew Palau's unforgettable journey of running from God -- and the crushing, freeing experience of coming back to Him. A Fool's Life

A Fool's Life PDF Author: Ryūnosuke Akutagawa
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780907954354
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Akutagawa Ryunosuke (1892-1927) is one of twentieth-century Japan's great storytellers. He is best known in the West for the story 'Rashomon', 'Rasho Gate', which, with another of his short stories as primary source, 'Within a Grove', was the inspiration behind Kurosawa's film Rashomon. Akutagawa read widely in world literature. He graduated from Tokyo University with a thesis on William Morris. His mentor was the great novelist Natsume Soseki, who had lived in London at the turn of the century. Akutagawa's writings include reworkings of motifs and tales of China's and Japan's past, modern fables, essays, and a few autobiographical fictions which, like A Fool's Life, follow his intense engagement and difficulty with the world. He ended his brief life the month after completing A Fool's Life. A small proportion of Akutagawa's output has, since 1930, been translated somewhat piecemeal into English, some works more than once. New selections continue to appear but an authoritative collected edition is still needed. This annotated translation of A Fool's Life includes new research. Translators: Anthony Barnett is a poet and music historian. His books include the collected The Resting Bell (1987) and selected Miscanthus (2005). He wrote a Masters on the Theory and Practice of Literary Translation at University of Essex in 1978. He was visiting scholar at the Center for International Programs, Meiji University, Tokyo in 2002. His other translations include Albiach, '. Berg, Delahaye, Giroux, Lagerkvist, Vesaas, Zanzotto. His writing is most recently surveyed in Ian Brinton's study Contemporary British Poetry: Poetry Since 1990 (Cambridge University Press, 2008). Dr Toraiwa Naoko is Professor of English at Meiji University. She received her doctorate from University of Sussex and divides her time between Japan and England.

Book Description
Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard how important it is to set goals. You've probably also heard a million different life hacks to help you reach them: get more sleep, meditate, journal. That's all helpful advice, but when push comes to shove, it won't help you lead a more fulfilling, peaceful life. That's because the key to success is how you pick the best goals...for you. The goals you set must be consistent with your inner core values. As Roy Cook shows, every person has 10-20 core values, unique to them. And when you build a life around your core values, success will follow. In the words of Socrates, "The unexamined life is not worth living." A Fool's Errand is your indispensable guide to self-examination and value-oriented living. You will learn what core values are, how to discover them, and how to use your values to make wise goal choices. You don't need life hacks. All the tools you need are already inside you.

Perfect Fool

Perfect Fool PDF Author: Garry Berman
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781593936761
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 220

Book Description
Perfect Fool: The Life and Career of Ed Wynn is the first-ever biography of the master comedian, chronicling a legendary career that spanned over half a century. It was Ed who coined this famous definition: "A comedian is not a man who says funny things; a comedian is a man who says things funny." Ed did both, first as a vaudeville and Ziegfeld Follies star, then as the "Perfect Fool" (so named from one of his many self-produced Broadway revues), as radio's "Fire Chief" on the popular Texaco-sponsored program, and as an early pioneer at the dawn of network television. He attained a level of praise and respect from his comedy peers, critics, and, of course, the public, rarely matched by any other comedian since. In his later years, he became a highly acclaimed dramatic character actor, much to the surprise and joy of all who didn't know he had it in him (including Ed himself). Yet for all his impressive achievements, this comedian/actor/director/writer has been too often overlooked in the years since his death in 1966. Perfect Fool is meant to help correct this injustice, with reviews, interviews, and never before published photos, some courtesy of grandson Tracy Keenan Wynn. This book is an appreciation of Ed Wynn's talents, foresight, and highly regarded ability to make people laugh virtually at will. About the Author: Garry Berman is an entertainment historian and freelance writer. His previous books include Best of the Britcoms, a celebration of the finest British situation comedies to appear on American television, and We're Going To See The Beatles!, an oral history of the Beatlemania era as told by the original generation of fans who lived it first-hand. Berman has also published a comic novel, Old Wave, and writes comedy scripts in between book projects. He lives in New Jersey with his wife Karen and their two spoiled dogs.
