Book Description
A one-dimensional mathematical model of the growth of ice crystals in supercooled clouds was examined in detail and a sensitivity analysis was performed. Critical parameters include seeding rate, temperature, cloud depth, liquid water content, drop size, and updraft velocities. Calculations were compared with experimental observations made during a stratus seeding field program conducted in Northern Michigan in 1977. Substituting reasonable values of cloud physics parameters and using known values of the seeding rates, minimum temperatures, and cloud depth, reasonable agreement between theoretical and observed rates of cloud dissipation was obtained.
