Report on Carcinogens (12th Ed. )

Report on Carcinogens (12th Ed. ) PDF Author: Nat. Toxicology Program (NTP) (NIH)
Publisher: DIANE Publishing
ISBN: 1437987362
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 507

Book Description
The Report on Carcinogens (RoC) is a congressionally mandated, science-based, public health document that identifies and discusses agents, substances, mixtures, or exposure circumstances (hereinafter referred to as "substances") that may pose a hazard to human health by virtue of their carcinogenicity. For each listed substance, the report contains a substance profile which provides information on (1) the listing status, (2) cancer studies in humans and animals, (3) studies of genotoxicity (ability to damage genes) and biologic mechanisms, (4) the potential for human exposure to these substances, and (5) Federalregulations to limit exposures. Eight substances have been added to this 12th ed. of the report, which now includes 240 listings. The industrial chemical formaldehyde and a botanical known as aristolochic acids are listed as known human carcinogens. Six other substances captafol, cobalt-tungsten carbide (in powder or hard metal form), certain inhalable glass wool fibers, o-nitrotoluene, riddelliine, and styrene are added as substances that are reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens. Figures. This is a print on demand report.

Extractive Metallurgy of Copper

Extractive Metallurgy of Copper PDF Author: Mark E. Schlesinger
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080967906
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 481

Book Description
This multi-author new edition revises and updates the classic reference by William G. Davenport et al (winner of, among other awards, the 2003 AIME Mineral Industry Educator of the Year Award "for inspiring students in the pursuit of clarity"), providing fully updated coverage of the copper production process, encompassing topics as diverse as environmental technology for wind and solar energy transmission, treatment of waste by-products, and recycling of electronic scrap for potential alternative technology implementation. The authors examine industrially grounded treatments of process fundamentals and the beneficiation of raw materials, smelting and converting, hydrometallurgical processes, and refining technology for a mine-to-market perspective - from primary and secondary raw materials extraction to shipping of rod or billet to customers. The modern coverage of the work includes bath smelting processes such as Ausmelt and Isasmelt, which have become state-of-the-art in sulfide concentrate smelting and converting. - Drawing on extensive international industrial consultancies within working plants, this work describes in depth the complete copper production process, starting from both primary and secondary raw materials and ending with rod or billet being shipped to customers - The work focuses particularly on currently-used industrial processes used to turn raw materials into refined copper metal rather than ideas working 'only on paper' - New areas of coverage include the environmentally appropriate uses of copper cables in power transmission for wind and solar energy sources; the recycling of electronic scrap as an important new feedstock to the copper industry, and state-of-the-art Ausmelt and Isasmelt bath smelting processes for sulfide concentrate smelting and converting

Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 012823654X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 476

Book Description
Production of Top 12 Biochemicals Selected by USDOE from Renewable Resources: Status and Innovation covers all important technological aspects of the production of biochemicals from renewable feedstock. All the important technological aspects of biomass conversion for example biomass pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis for cellulosic sugars production followed by the fermentation into chemicals and downstream recovery of the products is reviewed. Recent technological advancements in suitable microorganism development, bioprocess engineering for biomass conversion for cellulosic sugars production and various fermentation strategies and downstream recovery of these top 12 products is presented. Each bio-chemical selected by US Department of Energy i.e. ethanol, xylitol/sorbitol, furans (5-HMF, 2,5-FDCA,), glycerol & its derivatives, hydrocarbons) isoprene, iso-butadienes and others), lactic acid, succinic acid, 3-hydroxy propionic acid, levulinic acid and biohydrogen/biogas is included in a single book chapter. In addition to the technical aspects of these 12 biochemicals, general technological challenges dealing with lignocellulose refining, perspectives and solutions are elaborated in the book. Also, life cycle analysis, techno-economic viability, and sustainability index of biofuels/biochemicals are comprehensively reviewed in the book. - covers uniquely designed scientific and technical literature on USDOE top listed biochemicals production with clear images and tables in the context of biomass valorisation - Includes the clear and simplistic illustration of technological updates on biomass processing, system biology, microbial fermentation, catalysis, regeneration and monitoring of renewable energy and chemicals production - Presents fast and reliable source of information on techno-economic analysis, life cycle analysis, technological scouting at industrial scale - Entails fundamental aspects, recent developments in production of renewable chemicals as building block materials for commodity chemicals production
