Book Description
Excerpt from The Alstons and Allstons of North and South Carolina: Compiled From English, Colonial and Family Records With Personal Reminiscences; Also Notes of Some Allied Families My endeavor in compiling these notes has been to col lect the genealogical records of the Alston family in America, and to have them so arranged that the Ancestral. Lines can be easily traced, and the relationship marked out. In some lines family details are fully given, in others less so. I availed myself of all the reliable information that was obtainable. We would have been glad to have been able to insert more extended historical notes throughout the entire work, but such has been unobtainable, except from a few of the many prominent and well known mem bers. In a few families all records have been lost, and no trace of them can be found. While all families have not been fully traced, yet it is hoped that sufficient data have been given to enable such to connect and trace the relationship. By: Joseph A. Grooves and Rev. S. Emmett Lucas, Jr., Pub. 1901, revised 1976, and reprinted 2015, 668 pages, Index, ISBN #0-89308-013-6. There were two major Alston-Allston lines: one in North Carolina from which the author descends and which is a very comprehensive genealogy of this family; the other was the Allston family of South Carolina, in which the author concentrated on the male line. This reprint updates the South Carolina line of Allston family, emphasizing the female lines. Contains excellent genealogies of the LaBruce, Ward, Pawley families of the Wacacaamaw area. The publisher has added a very comprehensive photo section of various descendants of the Allstons, LaBruce, Pawleys and Wards from photograghs and oil paintings, as well as family jewlery and other items dating from the 1730's. This is a MUST book for anyone with roots in the Low Country of South Carolina due to the many intermarriages between these four familiesand other illustrious families of Colonial South Carolina.
