Canadian Pentecostals, the Trinity, and Contemporary Worship Music

Canadian Pentecostals, the Trinity, and Contemporary Worship Music PDF Author: Michael A. Tapper
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004343326
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 430

Book Description
This volume offers a landmark analysis of the trinitarian impulses in contemporary worship music used by the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC). It considers whether the lyrics from the most commonly used PAOC songs are consistent with this Evangelical group’s trinitarian statement of faith. Colin Gunton’s trinitarian theology provides the theological rationale for eight original and qualitative content analyses of these songs. Three major areas are considered—the doctrine of God, human personhood, and cosmology. Making use of Gunton’s notions of relationality, particularity, and perichoresis, along with several key Pentecostal scholars, this book serves as a helpful descriptive and prescriptive theological resource for the dynamic practice of a trinitarian faith.

Trinity and Transformation

Trinity and Transformation PDF Author: Todd Speidell
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 149828938X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 318

Book Description
The triune God of grace, James B. Torrance tirelessly insisted, is the true agent to transform worship, mission, and society. Unfortunately, the church often lapses into moralism and legalism, or exhortations and condemnations, rather than witnessing to the sole-sufficient grace of God in Christ. When we neglect the Trinity, a de facto unitarianism throws the church back onto its own existence and resources. In Christ, however, the church participates through the Spirit in union with Christ's communion with the Father. By so doing, it also participates in Christ's mission to the world. The essays of this volume articulate and extend Torrance's evangelical theology, which draws attention away from ourselves and toward the triune God who is for us and for the world.

Book Description
Among Seventh-day Adventists the doctrine of the Trinity is often taken for granted. But increasingly it is opposed by a small minority who have retreated to the anti-Trinitarian position of the pioneers. In response the authors, each a specialist in his field, trace the doctrine of the Trinity through Scripture, church history, and the writings of Ellen G. White.; ; The first section surveys the biblical foundations of the doctrine and addresses objections that have been raised. Other sections trace the development of the doctrine in Christian history, in Adventist history, and in the writings of Ellen White. The authors explain why the doctrine was resisted by many of the leading pioneers.; ; The final section asks "So what?" It discusses the theological and practical implications of Trinitarian belief, worship, and practice, showing how it affects what we believe about salvation, atonement, the great controversy, and other significant doctrines. With glossaries, bibliography, and index, this comprehensive primer on the Trinity will shed new light on the central beliefs of Christianity, and show how God still leads His church into all truth. - Introduction; SECTION ONE--The Biblical Evidence for the Full Deity of Christ, the Personality of the Spirit, and the Unity and Oneness of the Godhead; Chapter 1: The Strongest Bible Evidence for the Trinity; Chapter 2: The Full and Eternal Deity of Christ: Part I--The New Testament Epistles, the Old; Testament, and the Gospels; Chapter 3: The Full and Eternal Deity of Christ: Part II--The Gospel of John; Chapter 4: The Personality and Deity of the Spirit and the Triune Oneness of the Godhead; Chapter 5: Trinitarian Evidences in the Book of Revelation; Chapter 6: Biblical Objections to the Trinity; Chapter 7: Logical Objections to the Trinity; SECTION TWO--The History of the Trinity Doctrine From A.D. 100 to A.D. 1500; SECTION THREE--Trinity and Anti-Trinitarianism From the Reformation to the Advent; Movement; SECTION FOUR--The Doctrine of the Trinity and Its Implications for Christian Thought and Practice; Index

The Glorious Triunity of God

The Glorious Triunity of God PDF Author: Sonny Hernandez
Publisher: Independently Published
ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 173

Book Description
Believing in one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity is an essential of the Christian faith. God is not unipersonal, but is multi-personal, and God does not exist in three separate beings, but three divine and distinct persons. The one true God of the Bible exists in three consubstantial persons, with absolute unity of essence. Both the Old Testament (OT) and the New Testament (NT) have fully revealed that all three persons in the Godhead--the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit--are inseparable from the divine being and are permanently existing in one another. Professing Christians who do not know the Trinity don't know God or His gospel! Those who reject the Trinity by either dividing the substance or confounding the persons are guilty of heresy--since God exists in a Trinity of persons and the Trinity is grounded in the gospel--whereby God chose the elect, the Son redeemed the elect, and the Spirit seals the elect. Thus, learning the doctrine of the Trinity is an indispensable responsibility for every Christian. Shockingly, but not surprisingly, there are many professing believers who have never heard a full sermon or a lecture on the Tri-Personality of God. This is due to the fact that many of their pastors are either unlettered or ill-advised about the Trinity. So when many church members hear their pastors reference the Trinity in one of their sermons, it will typically be shallow, inept, or benighted. The implications are devastating: an ignorant pastor will always produce ignorant church members. But if professing Christians and their pastors remain ignorant about what God is and who He is, they will be unequipped and will have no ability to defend the multi-personality of God, the deity of Christ, or the gospel when confronted by Unitarians. The Glorious Triunity of God is not an exhaustive research book, but is a family worship and Bible study guide on the doctrine of the Trinity. This book was written for Christians to utilize as another family worship resource. This is important for two reasons: (1) the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, (2) and all three persons in the Godhead are to be equally worshiped and served. The Glorious Triunity of God was also written for pastors and Bible study groups in local churches, and for professing Christians to study with their families and friends so they can rightly divide the Word and to ensure that the Unity in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is worshiped. Amen.
