Schleiermacher on Christian Consciousness of God's Work in History

Schleiermacher on Christian Consciousness of God's Work in History PDF Author: Abraham Varghese Kunnuthara
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1630879371
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
This work is a fresh, unusually lucid approach to Christian theology and interfaith dialogue from India. Its basic aim is to examine "the Christian consciousness of God's work in history"--redemption history within the entire history of the world. It uses Christian Faith by Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834) as its main text, so as to view this theme "in a reversed order from the way it is presented there." This approach, which centers on God's "new creation" in Christ, leads to an incisive understanding of Christianity's relation to other modes of faith. Throughout, Dr. Kunnuthara compares the thought of another Indian Christian leader steeped in Hindu thought, Pandippedi Chenchiah (1886-1959), to enable renewed interfaith dialogue across a wide spectrum.

The Minimalist Parameter

The Minimalist Parameter PDF Author: Galina M. Alexandrova
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing
ISBN: 9027236992
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 371

Book Description
In view of its exploratory nature, Chomsky's 'minimalist' model has undergone multiple changes, triggering in response numerous proposals that are consistent with the tendencies that it follows or anticipates, and numerous proposals that offer alternatives to it. A good illustration of the variety of 'parallel' proposals is provided in the present volume. The articles derive from papers read at the "Challenges of Minimalism" session of the Open Linguistics Forum, held in Ottawa, in March 1997. This OLF meeting started as a graduate student initiative, but because of the topic chosen, attracted a wide and international audience. The twenty contributions are grouped in five sections: I. Syntactic Structure, Relations, Operations; II. Syntactic Movement: Cyclicity, Optionality, (Non)overtness; III.Case, Topic, Focus, Interrogativity; IV. Ellipsis, Reconstruction and Related Phenomena; V. DPs: Features and Syntactic Relations.

Free Lunch Thinking

Free Lunch Thinking PDF Author: Tom Bergin
Publisher: Random House
ISBN: 1473574617
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 384

Book Description
Countries with smaller governments grow faster. Tobacco taxes are the best way to cut smoking. Government regulation discourages entrepreneurship. Award-winning investigative journalist Tom Bergin digs into eight mantras widely accepted by Western governments and, by talking to the people who promote those ideas and the workers, businesspeople and consumers who have felt their impacts, finds they often don't play out as expected. Smart, funny and incisive, Free Lunch Thinking is essential reading for anyone who really wants to know how economies tick - and why they often don't. _______________________________________________________________ 'I couldn't put it down. A thorough and nuanced examination of the evolution of supply side economics . . . I loved it.' Arthur Laffer, creator of the Laffer Curve 'An entertaining and thought-provoking exploration of economic theories that have been both widely accepted and largely wrong . . . I devoured it in a couple of sittings.' Reuters Breakingviews 'An insightful account of the recent history of economic thought. If you are looking for a book which challenges you without being annoying - make it this one.' Institute of Economics Affairs
