Summary of Doesn't Hurt to Ask

Summary of Doesn't Hurt to Ask PDF Author: Alexander Cooper
Publisher: BookSummaryGr

Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 35

Book Description
Summary of Doesn't Hurt to Ask One of the most critical skills a prosecutor can have in a courtroom is the ability to persuade. Every prosecutor knows that if they cannot persuade a jury of their client's guilt, they will never get the sentence they want. To persuade, someone must possess a few skills. The first thing they must do is know their jury. They must know any biases their jury may have, and they must know how their jury thinks. Without being able to meet the jury where they are, a prosecutor will not be very convincing. The second thing they must do is learn to listen. Listening effectively gets to know a jury, but it also helps a prosecutor ask questions. Every good prosecutor has mastered the skills of when to ask leading vs. non-leading questions. Third, a prosecutor must have strong facts and solid evidence to reach their conclusions, and they must not impede their credibility by misrepresenting facts. Fourth, when talking to witnesses, a prosecutor must seek to either undermine their credibility or build it up. By asking the right questions and presenting the correct facts, they can do this. A great prosecutor will subtly do all of these things, treating persuasion like a process rather than a momentary battle. Real persuasion is done by getting to know others and incrementally persuading them, a skill that Gowdy teaches every reader how to possess in this book. Category : House & Home
Languages : en
Pages : 321

Book Description
From the "Marie Kondo of paper" comes a simple and accessible guide to paper management. Americans are drowning in paper. We keep stacks of it on the kitchen counter, stash it in drawers, and store file cabinets full of documents that we never even look at. Studies show that fully 85 percent of the paper in our lives can be tossed--but which 85 percent? And how do we organize and manage the 15 percent that remains? With The Paper Solution, founder of Organize365 Lisa Woodruff delivers a proven, step-by-step guide for what to shred, what to save, and how to sort what's left behind. With her method, you'll learn: • What documents you must absolutely hold on to • Which papers you can dispose of today • How to ditch your bulky filing cabinets and make your vital documents accessible and portable And at the heart of it all is the Sunday Basket: a box that sits on your counter and corrals those stray bills, forms, coupons, and scraps into an easy-to-use paper-management system. The Sunday Basket will become your new weekly habit--one that leads to less paper, less stress, and more time to spend on the things (and people) that matter most.

The Impact Equation

The Impact Equation PDF Author: Chris Brogan
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 1101572434
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 297

Book Description
“Anyone can write a blog post, but not everyone can get it liked thirty-five thousand times, and not everyone can get seventy-five thousand subscribers. But the reason we’ve done these things isn’t because we’re special. It’s because we tried and failed, the same way you learn to ride a bike. We tried again and again, and now we have an idea how to get from point A to point B faster because of it.” Three short years ago, when Chris Brogan and Julien Smith wrote their bestseller, Trust Agents, being interesting and human on the Web was enough to build a significant audience. But now, everybody has a platform. The problem is that most of them are just making noise. In The Impact Equation, Brogan and Smith show that to make people truly care about what you have to say, you need more than just a good idea, trust among your audience, or a certain number of followers. You need a potent mix of all of the above and more. Use the Impact Equation to figure out what you’re doing right and wrong. Apply it to a blog, a tweet, a video, or a mainstream-media advertising campaign. Use it to explain why a feature in a national newspaper that reaches millions might have less impact than a blog post that reaches a thousand passionate subscribers. Consider the phenomenally successful British singer Adele. For most musicians, onstage banter basically consists of yelling “Hello, Cleveland!” But Adele connects with her audience, pausing between songs to discuss a falling-out with her friends, or the drama of a break up. Each of these moments comes off as if she were talking directly with you, and you can easily relate. Adele has Impact. As the traditional channels for marketing, selling, and influencing disappear and more people interact mainly online, the very nature of attention is changing. The Impact Equation will give you the tools and metrics that guarantee your message will be heard.

You're Not Listening

You're Not Listening PDF Author: Kate Murphy
Publisher: Celadon Books
ISBN: 1250297206
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
When was the last time you listened to someone, or someone really listened to you? "If you’re like most people, you don’t listen as often or as well as you’d like. There’s no one better qualified than a talented journalist to introduce you to the right mindset and skillset—and this book does it with science and humor." -Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Originals and Give and Take **Hand picked by Malcolm Gladwell, Adam Grant, Susan Cain, and Daniel Pink for Next Big Ideas Club** "An essential book for our times." -Lori Gottlieb, New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone At work, we’re taught to lead the conversation. On social media, we shape our personal narratives. At parties, we talk over one another. So do our politicians. We’re not listening. And no one is listening to us. Despite living in a world where technology allows constant digital communication and opportunities to connect, it seems no one is really listening or even knows how. And it’s making us lonelier, more isolated, and less tolerant than ever before. A listener by trade, New York Times contributor Kate Murphy wanted to know how we got here. In this always illuminating and often humorous deep dive, Murphy explains why we’re not listening, what it’s doing to us, and how we can reverse the trend. She makes accessible the psychology, neuroscience, and sociology of listening while also introducing us to some of the best listeners out there (including a CIA agent, focus group moderator, bartender, radio producer, and top furniture salesman). Equal parts cultural observation, scientific exploration, and rousing call to action that's full of practical advice, You're Not Listening is to listening what Susan Cain's Quiet was to introversion. It’s time to stop talking and start listening.
