Book Description
At age 20, American gymnast Shawn Johnson is a four-time Olympic gold and silver medalist; a national- and world-champion athlete. Already a popular role model to all ages, in 2009 she captured the national spotlight again when she won the widely popular Dancing with the Stars. Yet Shawn is no stranger to hard work and adversity. Her loss of the major gymnastics prize everyone expected her to win in Beijing, the all-around Olympic gold medal, was the loss of a dream she’d worked for since childhood. And later, she suffered a staggering injury in a skiing accident that forced her life to a halt and made her rethink what was really important. She wasn’t sure who she was anymore. She wasn’t sure what her goals were. And she wasn’t sure she was satisfied with where she was with her faith and God. Could she find the right kind of success in life—the kind that doesn’t involve medals or trophies, but peace, love, and lasting joy? This is the amazing true journey of how the young woman who won an Olympic gold medal on the balance beam became even more balanced.

Summary of Winning

Summary of Winning PDF Author: Alexander Cooper
Publisher: BookSummaryGr
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 45

Book Description
Summary of Winning Everyone loves to win in whatever they do, which makes people search for a secret to winning. This book, Winning: The Unforgiving Race to Success was written by Tim S. Grover. The writer of the book is a public speaker and motivational speaker who has written a bestselling book Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable. The author’s latest book Winning: The Unforgiving Race to Success, promises to deliver lessons that will make a person winner in his/her field of work. In this book, the writer explains that the book is not to motivate people but to deliver winning results to motivated people. The writer also declares that if someone is seeking motivation from this book then this book is not appropriate for that person. The thirteen lessons to follow for winning in the book seem worth trying. However, there are few sections in this book where some people might find it difficult to agree with the author. I particularly want to point out a single line where I strongly disagree with the author. In this book, the author has said that time is not important to accomplish work and only dedication and focus can do. I personally believe every task requires a certain amount of time and without that time given no work can be performed. I mean, what if someone asked you to build a building in a day and told you everything is possible with focus and dedication. This is plain maddening and unrealistic. The book is written in a very simple and understandable language which is the best part of this book. The book does not contain any images or diagrams to support the writing. Grover has used lots of examples from his experience with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. The examples are so focused on these two celebrities that one might be confused thinking the book is an autobiography of Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. At some point, it feels like the book is only about winning in basketball games. One must read the complete book to understand the total picture of the book. The book will be enjoyable for people who love games or basketball. ISBN: 1640122389
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
Set in the fictitious world of Westeros, the hit television series Game of Thrones chronicles the bitter and violent struggle between the realm’s noble dynasties for control of the Seven Kingdoms. But this beloved fantasy drama has just as much to say about the successful strategies and real-life warfare waged in our own time and place. Winning Westeros brings together more than thirty of today’s top military and strategic experts, including generals and admirals, policy advisors, counterinsurgency tacticians, science fiction and fantasy writers, and ground‐level military officers, to explain the strategy and art of war by way of the Game of Thrones saga. Each chapter of Winning Westeros provides a relatable, outside‐the‐box way to simplify and clarify the complexities of modern military conflict. A chapter on the doomed butcher’s boy whom Arya Stark befriends by World War Z author Max Brooks poignantly reminds us of the cruel fate that civilians face during times of war. Another chapter on Jaqen H’ghar and the faceless men of Bravos explores the pivotal roles that stealth and intelligence play in battle. Whether considering the diplomatic prowess of Tyrion Lannister, the defiant leadership style of Daenerys Targaryen, the Battle of the Bastards and the importance of reserves, Brienne of Tarth and the increased role of women in combat, or dragons as weapons of mass destruction, Winning Westeros gives fans of Game of Thrones and aspiring military minds alike an inspiring and entertaining means of understanding the many facets of modern warfare. It is a book as captivating and enthralling as Game of Thrones itself.
