Pennsylvania and the War of 1812

Pennsylvania and the War of 1812 PDF Author: Victor Sapio
Publisher: University Press of Kentucky
ISBN: 0813188091
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 209

Book Description
In this study of Pennsylvania and the War of 1812, the author sees the political ambitions of the Republicans, rather than economic, diplomatic or expansionist motives as the primary impetus for the outbreak of the war. Fearful of the Federalists' growing strength, the Republicans exploited the friction with England to maintain their power and to secure the reelection of Madison to the presidency. In this strategy, Victor A. Sapio shows, Pennsylvania played a crucial but hitherto unrecognized part. The strongest Republican state, its politicians influential in their party's stance, Pennsylvania provided the largest number of votes for war, and willingly and consistently supported its prosecution.

Prices and Wages in England

Prices and Wages in England PDF Author: William Beveridge
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136924612
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 833

Book Description
Prices and wages are the social phenomena most susceptible of objective statistical record over long periods of time. They reflect and measure the influence of changes in population, in supply of precious metals, in industrial structure and agricultural methods, in trade and transport, in consumption and in the technical arts. Forming part of publications of the International Committee on Price History, this is Volume I of data from the twelfth to the nineteenth century. It was originally published in 1939 and almost the entire stock was destroyed during an air-raid. The present volume is a facsimile of that edition. This volume looks at the Mercantile era.
