Book Description
There is a saying that a friend in need is a friend indeed. This proverb, to my understanding, is about someone or a friend who stretches his or her hand to help their friend in difficult situations. A genuine friend is one who will offer his friend a shoulder to cry on. A friend who will intervene and assist during hard times. One who will intercede on his friend’s behalf when it is most needed. One who will support you when the going gets tough. One who will always be at your beckon call when everyone else leaves you. Such a person is a “friend indeed”. In Who To Call A Friend book, you will be able to identify people you should accept into your life. Proverbs 13:20 “Walk with the wise and become wise, associate with fools and get in trouble”. In the journey of life, we all need to find those who are willing and ready to go all the way with us through thick and thin. This book will help you to build right relationships, value a good friendship with respect, honesty, trust and also learn to say no to dream killers and embrace those that will add value to your life. A friend like Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you. I highly recommend Him! Email address: [email protected] Mobile number: + 780 234 6582

Big Friendship

Big Friendship PDF Author: Aminatou Sow
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1982111925
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
A close friendship is one of the most influential and important relationships a human life can contain. Anyone will tell you that! But for all the rosy sentiments surrounding friendship, most people don’t talk much about what it really takes to stay close for the long haul. Now two friends, Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman, tell the story of their equally messy and life-affirming Big Friendship in this honest and hilarious book that chronicles their first decade in one another’s lives. As the hosts of the hit podcast Call Your Girlfriend, they’ve become known for frank and intimate conversations. In this book, they bring that energy to their own friendship—its joys and its pitfalls. Aminatou and Ann define Big Friendship as a strong, significant bond that transcends life phases, geographical locations, and emotional shifts. And they should know: the two have had moments of charmed bliss and deep frustration, of profound connection and gut-wrenching alienation. They have weathered life-threatening health scares, getting fired from their dream jobs, and one unfortunate Thanksgiving dinner eaten in a car in a parking lot in Rancho Cucamonga. Through interviews with friends and experts, they have come to understand that their struggles are not unique. And that the most important part of a Big Friendship is making the decision to invest in one another again and again. An inspiring and entertaining testament to the power of society’s most underappreciated relationship, Big Friendship will invite you to think about how your own bonds are formed, challenged, and preserved. It is a call to value your friendships in all of their complexity. Actively choose them. And, sometimes, fight for them.

Morality and the Human Goods

Morality and the Human Goods PDF Author: Alfonso Gómez-Lobo
Publisher: Georgetown University Press
ISBN: 158901376X
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 161

Book Description
A concise and accessible introduction to natural law ethics, this book introduces readers to the mainstream tradition of Western moral philosophy. Building on philosophers from Plato through Aquinas to John Finnis, Alfonso Gómez-Lobo links morality to the protection of basic human goods — life, family, friendship, work and play, the experience of beauty, knowledge, and integrity — elements essential to a flourishing, happy human life. Gómez-Lobo begins with a discussion of Plato's Crito as an introduction to the practice of moral philosophy, showing that it requires that its participants treat each other as equals and offer rational arguments to persuade each other. He then puts forth a general principle for practical rationality: one should pursue what is good and avoid what is bad. The human goods form the basis for moral norms that provide a standard by which actions can be evaluated: do they support or harm the human goods? He argues that moral norms should be understood as a system of rules whose rationale is the protection and enhancement of human goods. A moral norm that does not enjoin the preservation or enhancement of a specific good is unjustifiable. Shifting to a case study approach, Gómez-Lobo applies these principles to a discussion of abortion and euthanasia. The book ends with a brief treatment of rival positions, including utilitarianism and libertarianism, and of conscience as our ultimate moral guide. Written as an introductory text for students of ethics and natural law, Morality and the Human Goods makes arguments consistent with Catholic teaching but is not based on theological considerations. The work falls squarely within the field of philosophical ethics and will be of interest to readers of any background.

A journey through the raw, real, and oftentimes graphic events of Gabriel’s life, The Breaking is the true story of a love that blooms between a young woman and the God who refused to give her up without a fight. The Shadow Self in Film

The Shadow Self in Film PDF Author: Gershon Reiter
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 1476612471
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 223

Book Description
This book examines 13 movies that deal with the protagonist and his projected "other." The cinematic Other is interpreted as an unconscious personality, a denied part of the protagonist that appears in his life as a shadowy menace who won't go away. Devoting a chapter to each movie, the book starts with Mamoulian's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and three cinematic pairs: two Hitchcock films, Shadow of a Doubt and Strangers on a Train; two versions of Cape Fear, J. Lee Thompson's 1962 original and Martin Scorsese's 1991 remake; and a pair of Clint Eastwood films, In the Line of Fire and Blood Work. The book then examines Something Wild, Sea of Love, Fight Club, Desperately Seeking Susan, Apocalypse Now and The Lives of Others. Overall the book aims to show how movies envision the unconscious Other we all too often project on other people.
