Book Description
The New Room in Bristol is the oldest Methodist chapel in the world (originally built in 1739) and the cradle of the early Methodist movement. It was built and used by John Wesley and the early Methodists as a meeting and preaching place and the centre for helping and educating the needy members of the community. Since 1929 there has been built up an important collection of Wesleyana which includes ceramics, pictures, class tickets, Preachers' Plans and objects connected with the Wesleys and early Methodist leaders. In 1973 it was agreed that the ceramic and non paper objects in the collection should be recorded and Rev Donald H. Ryan was invited to produce an illustratrated catalogue. The Methodist Conference Archives and History Committee made a grant which allowed items to be restored and the new catalogue created.
