The effects of weathering on the durability of flexible pavement specimens (standard Marshall cores 4 in. in diameter and 2-1/2 in. in height) exposed at the Waterways Experiment Station for periods of 26 to durability of the specimens were studied: gradation and type of aggregate; bitumen content; type of bitumen; compaction effort and method; quantity of filler (i.e. material passing No. 200 sieve); and confinement of specimens within rigid and flexible media. The weathering effects described are based solely on visual determinations of aggregate exposure, deformation and cracking of the specimens, and migration of the bituminous binder. (Author).
