Next, the waste streams from such a facility are identified. Then a waste management system is defined to safely handle and dispose of these wastes. The data base and methodologies necessary to make these decisions must then be developed. The International Atomic Energy Agency estimates that nuclear power generation facilities produce about 200,000 cubic meters of low and intermediate-level waste each year.
