Automation in Warehouse Development

Automation in Warehouse Development PDF Author: Roelof Hamberg
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0857299689
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 236

Book Description
The warehouses of the future will come in a variety of forms, but with a few common ingredients. Firstly, human operational handling of items in warehouses is increasingly being replaced by automated item handling. Extended warehouse automation counteracts the scarcity of human operators and supports the quality of picking processes. Secondly, the development of models to simulate and analyse warehouse designs and their components facilitates the challenging task of developing warehouses that take into account each customer’s individual requirements and logistic processes. Automation in Warehouse Development addresses both types of automation from the innovative perspective of applied science. In particular, it describes the outcomes of the Falcon project, a joint endeavour by a consortium of industrial and academic partners. The results include a model-based approach to automate warehouse control design, analysis models for warehouse design, concepts for robotic item handling and computer vision, and autonomous transport in warehouses. Automation in Warehouse Development is targeted at both academic researchers and industrial practitioners. It provides state-of-the art research on warehouse automation and model-based warehouse design. These topics have been addressed from a systems engineering perspective by researchers from different disciplines including software, control, and mechanical engineering, with a clear focus on the industrial applications of their research.

Practical Handbook of Warehousing

Practical Handbook of Warehousing PDF Author: Kenneth B. Ackerman
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461560136
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 560

Book Description
This is a fourth edition of a work first published in 1983. It contains the same number of chapters as the third edition, published in 1990. However, it has a substantial amount of new material. Major changes in warehousing in the last seven years have caused appropriate changes in the content of this text. Nearly three decades have passed since our first published writing about warehousing. The goal of our early writing was to develop a better understanding between the third-party warehouse operator and the user of these services. Today the emphasis has changed to a work that provides the tools that every warehouse manager needs. This book intends to be a comprehensive handbook consisting of everything we know that would help the manager of warehouses. Much of the information is based upon materials previously used in Warehousing Forum, our monthly subscription newsletter. While the work is designed primarily as a handbook for manag ers, it also serves as a guide for students. It is based upon my experience, both as a warehousing manager and executive, and later as a management advisor. The work is designed as a management reference for anyone involved in operating, using, constructing, or trading in industrial warehouses.

Blanding’s Practical Physical Distribution

Blanding’s Practical Physical Distribution PDF Author: Warren Blanding
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461338468
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 841

Book Description
The idea for this Handbook dates back more than a dozen years, to the time when I was commissioned by The Mason and Dixon Lines to develop a handbook that would be useful both to their own people and to their shippers in understanding and applying the basic principles of the then-emerging management science of physical distribution management. Then as now, there were several excellent textbooks in the field. But they were written primarily for classroom use, for persons who would be entering careers in the field at a later date. And there was virtually nothing for the working manager or manager-to-be. Thus we saw the need for a hands-on, practically-oriented guide to physical distribution management, written mainly in non-academic language and supplement ing rather than duplicating the excellent existing coverage of inventory theory, queueing and, other textbook subjects. Bear in mind that the times were quite different, back then. The Na tional Council of Physical Distribution Management (NCPDM) had been in existence barely two years, and had fewer than 200 members. Indeed, there were probably not 100 persons in the country who had the title "Distribution Manager" after their names. Today, of course, the NCPDM has over 2,000 members and the distribution manager title is widely used and recognized. In fact, many who hold the title today were recipients of the original Mason and Dixon materials back then, and quite often car ried the time-honored title of "Traffic Manager.
