Take a Walk in My Shoes

Take a Walk in My Shoes PDF Author: B. J. Parker
Publisher: Archway Publishing
ISBN: 1480804983
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 102

Book Description
Once a taboo subject, victims of rape and molestation were left without a voice with nowhere to turn and no one to help them. In Take a Walk in My Shoes, author B. J. Parker shares her personal story of being raped and molested by her stepfather at a young age. She exposes the controversial topic of molestation, its long-term adverse effects on interpersonal relationships, its role in promoting self-destructive behaviors, and the need to find control. In this inspirational memoir, Parker, now fifty-three years old, comes to terms with her early abuse and tells about taking the crucial steps needed to find her way back. Take a Walk in My Shoes narrates Parkers story and how she adopted a life of alcohol and drugs to ease the constant emotional pain and how she chose to be homeless rather than live in a dwelling that had everything, including her abuser. Her story follows her journey through childhood and as a runaway teenager, a high school dropout, and a single mother. Take a Walk in My Shoes tells how she overcame the stigma of abuse by sharing the message that successes are possible for each and every victim. Parker explains how to embrace life, believe in yourself, dig deep within your soul, and hold tight to your dreams.

Book Description
Walk a While in My Shoes is a collection of poems that are an account of one man's journey in life, from teenager right into adulthood. It is a record of the key events and moments through hurt, frustration and at times, sheer inspiration, that compelled me to write my poetry. In essence, the central themes of this collection of works are love, loss and an admiration of femininity. The journey starts when I am at the tender age of fifteen years old. The background setting is the back streets ofBirmingham, Middle England in the mid 1990s. Originating from a large family of two sisters and six brothers, I was a middle child. In my teens, not being heard or noticed was the reason poetry became an escape to vent my bottled up emotions that ran riot, in verse form on a page. My parents were going through a separation whilst I was is in the final year of high school. It was then that a poem I had written in my creative writing class was entered for a competition. This marked the beginning of my writing adventure. The adventure has had its highs and lows. The lowest of which was the loss of my brother Kalam in a tragic road accident. The never ending high point started when I was twenty two years old. That is when I met the love of my life. As it was true for Romeo and Juliet, who each came from opposing households, the same was true for Nicky and her Rob. Nicky comes from a Sikh family and I from a Muslim family. These are two religious backgrounds that conventionally do not mix. This struggle gave access to a whole new reservoir of inspiration to tap into.

Category : Fiction

Pages : 278

Book Description
"[A] remarkable collection . . . Bold and addictive, Going Away Shoes is a find." —People The foibles of the people in Jill McCorkle’s world are so familiar that we want nothing so much as to watch them walk into—and then get out of—life’s inevitable traps. Here, in her first collection in eight years, McCorkle collects eleven brand-new stories bristling with her characteristic combination of wit and weight. In honeymoon shoes, mud-covered hunting boots, or glass slippers, all of the women in these stories march to a place of new awareness, in one way or another, transforming their lives. They make mistakes, but they don’t waste time hiding behind them. They move on. They are strong. And they’re funny, even when they are sad. These stories are the work of a great storyteller who knows exactly how—and why—to pair pain with laughter.

Step 4: Walk with walker Step 5: Walk with sticks Step 6: Walk without props Recreational interlude for sex Step 7: RUN! Ruth Marshall—power mom, wife, actor, and daughter—was in great health, until one day, her feet started to tingle. She visited doctors and specialists for tests, but no one could figure out the cause of her symptoms. Was she imagining those pesky tingles? She tried to brush it off, even as she tripped over curbs and stumbled into people. Clumsiness is charming, right? But when Ruth suddenly couldn’t feel her legs at all, she knew something was terribly wrong. Her fears were confirmed by an MRI revealing a rare tumour that had been quietly growing on her spine for more than a decade. Within days, surgery was scheduled, and after the intense eight-hour ordeal, Ruth woke up to find her legs and feet had forgotten how to do...well, everything. The question that burned in her mind was, “Will I ever walk again?” What Ruth thought would be three days in the hospital turned into months of rehabilitation as she relearned not only how to walk, run, pee, and even have sex again, but how to better appreciate everyone around her—including her devoted husband, her two young sons, her worried parents, her sisters, her loving friends, and the caring staff at the rehab center who help her tackle her recovery head-on. Laugh-out-loud outrageous and searingly honest, this is a memoir that not only entertains but inspires readers to put their best foot forward and walk off anything life throws their way.
