Book Description
It was November 2015, and I had just received my advance copies of Scattered Thoughts, Volume Five, with a picture of my grandson and I on the cover. As I was sharing it with family and friends, I overheard my nephew say, Why is he on the cover? Whats he ever done? Hes only three! I decided right then that Volume Six (should there end up being one) would be dedicated to my three boys, Rick, Dallin, and Michael. Therefore, as you now know, imagination held serve, and here is Volume Six. Signed, sealed, and delivered, in honor of my boys.

Heart of Palm

Heart of Palm PDF Author: Laura Lee Smith
Publisher: Grove/Atlantic, Inc.
ISBN: 0802193560
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 382

Book Description
“A spirited Southern family saga” from the acclaimed author of The Ice House: “Fans of Fannie Flagg will enjoy this novel” (The Plain Dealer). Once enlivened by the trade in Palm Sunday palms and moonshine, Utina, Florida, hasn’t seen economic growth in decades, and no family is more emblematic of the local reality than the Bravos. Deserted by the patriarch years ago, the Bravos are held together in equal measure by love, unspoken blame, and tenuously brokered truces. The story opens on a sweltering July day, as Frank Bravo, dutiful middle son, is awakened by a distress call. Frank dreams of escaping to cool mountain rivers, but he’s only made it ten minutes from the family restaurant he manages every day and the decrepit, Spanish moss–draped house he was raised in, and where his strong-willed mother and spitfire sister—both towering redheads, equally matched in stubbornness—are fighting another battle royale. Little do any of them know that Utina is about to meet the tide of development that has already engulfed the rest of Northeast Florida. When opportunity knocks, tempers ignite, secrets are unearthed, and each of the Bravos is forced to confront the tragedies of their shared past. “An incandescent first novel set in the small town of Utina, Florida, whose inhabitants struggle to balance tradition and progress.” —O, The Oprah Magazine “Intelligence, heart, wit . . . Laura Lee Smith has all the tools and Heart of Palm is a very impressive first novel.” —Richard Russo, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Empire Falls

Your Name Here

Your Name Here PDF Author: John Ashbery
Publisher: Open Road Media
ISBN: 1480459143
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 180

Book Description
A mesmerizing, endlessly entertaining collection that shows John Ashbery at his most exuberant, honest, and inviting John Ashbery’s nineteenth original collection of poetry, first published in 2000, might be one of the “Ashberyest” of his long and varied career. In these poems, the slippery pronouns (who is speaking, who is being spoken to?), the high-low allusions (Daffy Duck, please meet Rimbaud), and the twists of context (where are we anyway, and what’s happening here?) that have long been hallmarks of Ashbery’s poetry are on full, rambunctious display. Beginning with the book’s very title, Ashbery invites the reader into the world of his poetry like never before; each poem can be read as a postcard to experiences that could be yours, his, or anyone’s. And yet the poems in Your Name Here are also personal and particular. The collection is dedicated to an old friend, and in the well-known “History of My Life,” Ashbery strikes a rare autobiographical chord. Some of the best-known poems of Ashbery’s later career are here, including “Not You Again,” “Crossroads in the Past,” and “They Don’t Just Go Away, Either.” Polyphonic, deeply honest, and frequently very funny, Your Name Here is both wonder filled and wonderful.

Experiment in barefoot walking, pain-free hiking on the Camino Portugues, the Portuguese Way of St. James.

Experiment in barefoot walking, pain-free hiking on the Camino Portugues, the Portuguese Way of St. James. PDF Author: Oliver Schael
Publisher: epubli
ISBN: 3756543102
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 132

Book Description
Just try to experience your time off differently, throw your fears and prejudices overboard, don't buy your vacation with your hard-earned money. Live at least the few days a year not planned and structured. Just live into the day. This book is not a travel guide. Why barefoot? Quite simply. For some time now, we've taken a liking to long hikes but time and time again we've been painfully reminded during or after hikes that it's not that easy; especially for the bones. The only solution: More and more expensive equipment. I want to share with you this adventure, experiment, with all the experiences and knowledge I have made. I am not a doctor or a healer, but an engineer, however I know a lot about mechanics and forces. So I look at the influences of barefoot walking from a purely physical point of view, just as the engineer does. I, on the other hand, want to systematically strengthen the walking apparatus and thus ensure that I get fewer complaints when walking. After a short period of training, I felt the effect and was fit enough to feel good for the Camino. I had no significant discomfort, neither during, nor after the hike. The taped knees, the limping people and the stories of painkillers encouraged me to implement the decision I had made earlier to put the experiences in writing. The stories are written in the form of a diary, and in retrospect I realize how much the Camino has changed me. But there's something else, I started out to walk a well-maintained, easy trail that had good infrastructure. But I discovered the Camino. Humanity, humility and a closeness that I had not experienced in this form for a long time. An experience that is difficult to convey, but so exhilarating that I decided to walk the path regularly.
