Operation Crossroads. Vycor Glass Gamma Ray Dosimeters
Author: Maynard Eicher

Pages : 11
Book Description
A gamma ray dosimeter was developed and used on Operation Crossroads providing dosage measurements at certain selected locations on the target ships. The range of dosage measured was from 100 to 20,000 roentgens. The principle of darkening of vycor glass by gamma rays proved to be applicable for a rugged, simple dosimeter. (Author).

Book Description
These dosimeteres have been used for gamma ray dose surveys in the laboratory and in the field at atom bomb tests. The method has proved to be simple, economical, and rugged, with an over-all accuracy of about #+5 percent.

Extended Application of a Cobalt Glass Dosimeter
Author: WILLIAM T. K. JOHNSON
Publisher:
ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 1
Book Description
Cobalt glass dosimeters, normally used to measure gamma ray and electron fields, were used to measure gamma ray and coexistent thermal neutron fields in the presence of a fast neutron field. The dosimeter is darkened in proportion to the energy deposited and this darkening is calibrated in known gamma ray and thermal neutron fields. A three-glass sandwich was used to distinguish the effects of gamma rays and thermal neutrons. The sensitivity of the glass to various energy gamma and x-rays is presented. A simple spectrophotometer is used to measure the transmission of light through the glass dosimeter. (Author).
