Book Description
This documentary study is based on 12 national dossiers on vocational education and training in the tourist industry. Part 1 is an overview of school vocational training diplomas and curricula and the provision of training programs in the tourist industry. The description of the provision of training in this sector is followed by a review of training programs--secondary and postsecondary--for each Member State of the European Community: Belgium, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. A bibliography is provided at the end of most country summaries. Part 2 gives details of policies in the field of tourism in seven Member States and their implications for national and regional economic development. These details are supplemented by bibliographical extracts. For other countries (Belgium, Greece, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, and Portugal), the bibliographic references appear at the end of the report. Part 3 lists publications related to research on both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of tourism. The publications are divided into three categories: national studies on tourism and employment, studies and research on specific subjects, and training of managers. Content of the publication is briefly summarized. A bibliography and references section lists 163 publications and titles by country. Addresses for additional information (by country) are also listed. (YLB)

Lifelong Learning for Tourism

Lifelong Learning for Tourism PDF Author: Violet V. Cuffy
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1315407809
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 251

Book Description
Since the middle of the last century tourism has demonstrated almost continual growth, with international tourist arrivals now recorded in excess of one billion per annum. Given the global socio-economic significance of tourism, it is imperative to develop educational opportunities for those working in tourism-related industries. These opportunities should fulfil the changing needs of both industry, travellers, and the learners themselves. While the concept of lifelong learning in the tourism industry plays an important role, it has received little academic attention to date. This book provides a theoretical overview of lifelong learning for tourism, exploring its history, practice, and conceptualization. It demonstrates the importance of lifelong learning for tourism from a variety of perspectives, drawing on educational, industry, policy, and socio-economic insights. The book explores managerial and political implications, critical issues, best practice examples, and draws on a range of international case studies to demonstrate theory in practice. Finally, it offers a conceptual framework for future curriculum approaches. This book will be of interest to students, scholars, and practitioners of tourism studies, hospitality, business and management, and international development. It will also appeal to those interested in adult education, vocational training, professional development, and pedagogy.
