Book Description
Vibration problems dealing with advanced Mathematical and Numerical Techniques have extensive application in a wide class of problems in ae- nautics, aerodynamics, space science and technology, off-shore engineering and in the design of different structural components of high speed space crafts and nuclear reactors. Different classes of vibration problems dealing with complex geometries and non-linear behaviour require careful attention of scientists and engineers in pursuit of their research activities. Almost all fields of Engineering, Science and Technology, ranging from small domestic building subjected to earthquake and cyclone to the space craft venturing towards different planets, from giant ship to human skeleton, encounter problems of vibration and dynamic loading. This being truly an interdisciplinary field, where the mathematicians, phy- cists and engineers could interface their innovative ideas and creative thoughts to arrive at an appropriate solution, Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, India, a premier institution for education and research in engineering, science and technology felt it appropriate to organize 8th International C- ference on “Vibration Problems (ICOVP-2007)” as a part of its sesquicentenary celebration. The conference created a platform and all aspects of vibration phenomenon with the focus on the state-of-the art in theoretical, experimental and applied research areas were addressed and the scientific interaction, p- ticipated by a large gathering including eminent personalities and young research workers, generated many research areas and innovative ideas.

Ground Movements and Vibrations Caused by Impact Pile Driving of Prestressed Concrete Piles in Central Florida

Ground Movements and Vibrations Caused by Impact Pile Driving of Prestressed Concrete Piles in Central Florida PDF Author: Jorge Enrique Orozco Herrera
Publisher:
ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 115

Book Description
It is concluded that in cases where vibration levels comply with the thresholds defined by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) large ground deformations can still occur depending on the above-mentioned site-specific variables. In terms of numerical modeling alternatives, a continuous modeling approach offered a better estimation of the stress field generated by pile driving than a discontinuous approach. This allows for better determination of the strains within the soil continuum leading to better ground deformation predictions.

Environmental Vibrations: Prediction, Monitoring, Mitigation and Evaluation

Environmental Vibrations: Prediction, Monitoring, Mitigation and Evaluation PDF Author: Hirokazu Takemiya
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780415390354
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 676

Book Description
Globally there is much interest in environmental vibrations, as caused by all forms of traffic, by construction activities and factory operations, and by other man-made sources. The focus is on prediction, control and mitigation to benefit our quality of life, and also to improve the operation of sensitive machines in high-tech production. The Japanese Geotechnical Society, the Architectural Institute of Japan, the Japanese Society of Civil Engineering and the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering came together to organise this International Symposium on Environmental Vibrations at Okayama University, from September 20th to September 22nd, 2005. This book contains the proceedings of this meeting, recording the international exchange of experience, knowledge and research presented at the conference. Both invited and submitted papers are included, written by eminent academic professionals and engineering specialists. It includes topical areas of environmental vibrations, as well as referring to expertise and practices in related fields, these include: wave propagation in soils; soil dynamics; soil-structure dynamic interaction; field measurement of environmental vibration; monitoring of environmental vibrations; development of vibration mitigation measures; evaluation of environmental vibrations; effects of vibration on human perception; effects of vibration on high-precision machines. Both the research community and professionals in the field of environmental vibrations will find this an excellent resource.
