The Uplift Project

The Uplift Project PDF Author: R. Robert Holson
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1514456885
Category : Reference
Languages : en
Pages : 230

Book Description
In this book the author puts forward an agenda to enhance intelligence and longevity in humans, select animal species (including dogs, dolphins and elephants), and machines. This effort would extend over 1,000 years or 40 human generations. Enhancements of IQ and longevity in humans would involve both environmental and genetic improvements in membership IQ and longevity. The goal would be a mean IQ of 145 and an average longevity of 100 years in human Uplift Project members by the end of these 1,000 years. Given that Uplift Project members will probably at project outset have better than average IQ and life expectancy, this could involve as little as a two standard deviations increase in IQ (30 points) and one standard deviation increase in longevity (20 years) over these 1,000 years. The Uplift Project would also expand human, animal and machine membership not only across the planet, but to the moon, Mars, and space colonies.

Uplifting Leadership

Uplifting Leadership PDF Author: Andy Hargreaves
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118921348
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
What does it take to do more with less? How can you do better than before, or better than others? How do you turn losses into wins, or near-bankruptcy into strong profitability, or abject failure into stellar success? The power of uplift enables any organization to do more with less, beat the competition, and perform better than ever. Leaders who uplift their employees' passions, intellects, and commitments produce remarkable results. Based on original research from a seven-year global study, Uplifting Leadership reveals how leaders from diverse organizations inspired and uplifted their teams' performance. Distilling the six common characteristics of leaders at high-performing organizations across business, sports, and education, authors Andy Hargreaves, Alan Boyle, and Alma Harris explore the nature of uplift, its impact on performance, and the ways to achieve it within and beyond an organization's walls, revealing how leaders: Identify and articulate an inspiring dream that is coherently connected to the best of what the organization has been before Pursue that dream at a sustainable pace without squandering resources, incurring excessive debt, or burning people out Forge paths of innovation and improvement that others have overlooked or rejected Monitor progress by using metrics and indicators in a mindful and meaningful way Build teams that naturally pull people into change rather than pushing them through it Featuring case studies of organizations as diverse as Shoebuy.com, Fiat, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Marks & Spencer, Cricket Australia, Burnley Football Club, and the Vancouver Giants, as well as world-leading educational systems, Uplifting Leadership provides tools for leaders to incorporate these performance-driving strategies into their own. For leaders who want their people to try harder, transform what they do, reach for a higher purpose, and stay resolute and resilient when opposing forces threaten to defeat them, Uplifting Leadership provides a path to better performance across any organization.

Tectonic Uplift and Climate Change

Tectonic Uplift and Climate Change PDF Author: William F. Ruddiman
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461559359
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 537

Book Description
A significant advance in climatological scholarship, Tectonic Uplift and Climate Change is a multidisciplinary effort to summarize the current status of a new theory steadily gaining acceptance in geoscience circles: that long-term cooling and glaciation are controlled by plateau and mountain uplift. Researchers in many diverse fields, from geology to paleobotany, present data that substantiate this hypothesis. The volume covers most of the key, dramatic transformations of the Earth's surface.

Targeting Uplift

Targeting Uplift PDF Author: René Michel
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030226255
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 373

Book Description
This book explores all relevant aspects of net scoring, also known as uplift modeling: a data mining approach used to analyze and predict the effects of a given treatment on a desired target variable for an individual observation. After discussing modern net score modeling methods, data preparation, and the assessment of uplift models, the book investigates software implementations and real-world scenarios. Focusing on the application of theoretical results and on practical issues of uplift modeling, it also includes a dedicated chapter on software solutions in SAS, R, Spectrum Miner, and KNIME, which compares the respective tools. This book also presents the applications of net scoring in various contexts, e.g. medical treatment, with a special emphasis on direct marketing and corresponding business cases. The target audience primarily includes data scientists, especially researchers and practitioners in predictive modeling and scoring, mainly, but not exclusively, in the marketing context.

Historical Perspectives to Postglacial Uplift

Historical Perspectives to Postglacial Uplift PDF Author: Jari Pohjola
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 303000970X
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 64

Book Description
This Brief discusses a unique mechanism to combine historical and archaeological evidence with statistical geodynamic modeling to study the historical development of the Eura region in lower Satakunta, Finland; this region is known for its rich cultural history. The book presents methods to model postglacial land uplift and the historical landscape. By using coupled data, it is possible to narrow the dating estimates of the archaeologically important places and structures and to build a more detailed reconstruction of landscape evolution in connection with the knowledge about human settlements and their movements. The resulting geospatial and uplift models are included as supplements. The primary audience for this book is experts and professionals working in the fields of archaeology, geography, geology and geospatial data analysis.

Soil Reinforcement for Anchor Plates and Uplift Response

Soil Reinforcement for Anchor Plates and Uplift Response PDF Author: Hamed Niroumand
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
ISBN: 0128095644
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
Soil Reinforcement for Anchor Plates and Uplift Response presents a comprehensive and rigorous review of the current knowledge in soil improvement for anchor plates, and is based on original research that includes experimental data on how to enhance uplift response of soil anchor plates by using several soil reinforcement methods. Divided into 6 chapters, the author makes an introduction to both Ancho Plates and Soil Reinforcement in chapter one, then providing a comprehensive literature review on the topic in chapter 2. Chapter 3 presents how the experiment was set up, the different types of geotextiles used, and the types of soil tested. Chapter 4 presents experimental data, along with data provided by simulation softwares, including Plaxis. Chapter 5 compares the experimental results to the numerical simulation data, providing researchers and geotechnical engineers with tools they can apply to their own projects. In chapter 6, the author presents his conclusions and recommendations on the usage of soil reinforcement to maximize uplift response to anchor plates. Researchers in geotechnical engineering can use the methods and experimental data presented in the book on their own projects, and practicing engineers will benefit from the comparisons between experimental and simulation data provided to make appropriate selection of soil reinforcement techniques that can be applied to their projects. - Presents techniques for improving uplift response by 40% or more - Discusses the uplift capacity of symmetrical anchor plates in several scenarios - Provides a complete review of soil reinforcement for anchor plates - Includes numerical analyses methods for validating experimental test results
