Book Description
Modeling with UML

Modeling with UML PDF Author: Bernhard Rumpe
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319339338
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 288

Book Description
This book presents a variant of UML that is especially suitable for agile development of high-quality software. It adjusts the language UML profile, called UML/P, for optimal assistance for the design, implementation, and agile evolution to facilitate its use especially in agile, yet model based development methods for data intensive or control driven systems. After a general introduction to UML and the choices made in the development of UML/P in Chapter 1, Chapter 2 includes a definition of the language elements of class diagrams and their forms of use as views and representations. Next, Chapter 3 introduces the design and semantic facets of the Object Constraint Language (OCL), which is conceptually improved and syntactically adjusted to Java for better comfort. Subsequently, Chapter 4 introduces object diagrams as an independent, exemplary notation in UML/P, and Chapter 5 offers a detailed introduction to UML/P Statecharts. Lastly, Chapter 6 presents a simplified form of sequence diagrams for exemplary descriptions of object interactions. For completeness, appendixes A–C describe the full syntax of UML/P, and appendix D explains a sample application from the E-commerce domain, which is used in all chapters. This book is ideal for introductory courses for students and practitioners alike.

Book Description
Most of the articles in this volume are revised versions of papers presented during the 1st GROOM-Workshop on the Unified Modeling Language (UML). GROOM (Grundlagen objektorientierter Modellierung) is a working group of the Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI), the German Society of Computer Science. The workshop took place at the University of Mannheim (Germany) in October 1997; the local organizers were Martin Schader and Axel Korthaus, Department of Information Systems. The scientific program of the workshop included 21 talks, presented in German language on Friday, Oct. 10th, and Saturday, Oct. 11th, 1997. Researchers and practitioners interested in object-oriented software development, analysis and design of software systems, standardization efforts in the field of object technology, and particularly in the main topic of the workshop: ''Applications, State of the Art, and Evaluation of the Unified Modeling Language" had the opportunity to discuss recent developments and to establish cooperation in these fields. The workshop owed much to its sponsors and supporters - University of Mannheim - Faculty of Business Administration, University of Mannheim - Sun Microsystems GmbH - Apcon Professional Concepts GmbH. Their generous support is gratefully acknowledged. In the present proceedings volume, papers are presented in three chapters as follows.

The Unified Modeling Language Reference Manual

The Unified Modeling Language Reference Manual PDF Author: James Rumbaugh
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional
ISBN: 9780321718952
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 721

Book Description
"If you are a serious user of UML, there is no other book quite like this one. I have been involved with the UML specification process for some time, but I still found myself learning things while reading through this book-especially on the changes and new capabilities that have come with UML." -Ed Seidewitz, Chief Architect, IntelliData Technologies Corporation The latest version of the Unified Modeling Language-UML 2.0-has increased its capabilities as the standard notation for modeling software-intensive systems. Like most standards documents, however, the official UML specification is difficult to read and navigate. In addition, UML 2.0 is far more complex than previous versions, making a thorough reference book more essential than ever. In this significantly updated and expanded edition of the definitive reference to the standard, James Rumbaugh, Ivar Jacobson, and Grady Booch-the UML's creators-clearly and completely describe UML concepts, including major revisions to sequence diagrams, activity models, state machines, components, internal structure of classes and components, and profiles. Whether you are capturing requirements, developing software architectures, designing implementations, or trying to understand existing systems, this is the book for you. Highlights include: Alphabetical dictionary of articles covering every UML concept Integrated summary of UML concepts by diagram type Two-color diagrams with extensive annotations in blue Thorough coverage of both semantics and notation, separated in each article for easy reference Further explanations of concepts whose meaning or purpose is obscure in the original specifications Discussion sections offering usage advice and additional insight into tricky concepts Notation summary, with references to individual articles An enhanced online index available on the book's web site allowing readers to quickly and easily search the entire text for specific topics The result is an indispensable resource for anyone who needs to understand the inner workings of the industry standard modeling language.

Complexity Metrics in Engineering Design

Complexity Metrics in Engineering Design PDF Author: Matthias Kreimeyer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642209637
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 416

Book Description
This book presents the results of several years’ research work on how to characterize complexity in engineering design with a specific regard to dependency modeling. The 52 complexity metrics that are presented show different facets of how complexity takes shape in design processes. The metrics are supported by a modeling method and a measurement framework to employ the metrics in a goal-oriented manner. The detailed description of all involved metrics and models makes it possible to apply the analysis approach to common process modeling methodologies. Three case studies from automotive process management illustrate the application to facilitate the transfer to other cases in an industrial context. The comprehensive appendix supplies additional details and checklists for structural analysis to generate a complete overview of current means of structural analysis.

Towards a Formalizing of the Unified Modeling Language

Towards a Formalizing of the Unified Modeling Language PDF Author: Ruth Breu
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Object-oriented methods (Computer science)
Languages : en
Pages : 30

Book Description
Abstract: "The Unified Modeling Language UML is a language for specifying, visualizing and documenting object-oriented systems. UML combines the concepts of OOA/OOD, OMT and OOSE and is intended as a standard in the domain of object-oriented analysis and design. Due to the missing formal, mathematical foundation of UML the syntax and the seamntics of a number of UML constructs are not precisely defined. This paper outlines a proposal for the formal foundation of UML that is based on a mathematical system model. It also compares UML with the method SLM developed in the SysLab project. In the design of SLM special care has been given to the mathematical foundation."
