Book Description
This report gives an account of the use of the deep submergence research vehicle Deepstar 4000 by the U.S. Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory during the period 1 July to 23 October 1967. The report has been divided into two major sections: an overview of the planning and operation of the program, and a general summary of the research conducted during the operation. Operation Deepstar consisted of 53 scientific research dives conducted along a 2500-mile track from the Gulf of Mexico to south of Newfoundland. Research dives were made to obtain data concerning (1) surface, bottom, and volume reverberation, (2) the biological composition of the deep scattering layer, (3) detailed physical features of the ocean bottom, (4) ambient electromagnetic noise in the sea, (5) ambient acoustic noise, and (6) the applicability of DRV's for target strength measurements. Underwater Medicine and Related Sciences

Underwater Medicine and Related Sciences PDF Author: Charles Wesley Shilling
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468485008
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 704

Book Description
This volume follows and updates AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ON DIVING AND SUBMARINE MEDICINE published by Gordon and Breach, Science Publishers, Inc., in 1971. The time period covered is primarily the calendar years 1970 and 1971. Also included, however, is much material from the calendar years 1968 and 1969 not in the previous publication. A brief analysis of the sources of material precedes the citations and abstracts, which comprise the main section of the volume. The bibliography is followed by a permuted subject index and an author index. Also included, following the indexes, is a micro thesaurus. Although no attempt has been made to do a critical subject analysis, such an analysis could be accomplished through selecting a particular subject, looking up the appropriate key works in the rotated index, identifying the abstracts, analyzing them, obtaining complete copy as desired, and completing the critical review. Capacitor Discharge Engineering

Capacitor Discharge Engineering PDF Author: Frank B. A. Früngel
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483273474
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 513

Book Description
High Speed Pulse Technology, Volume III: Capacitor Discharge Engineering covers the production and practical application of capacitor dischargers for the generation and utilization of high speed pulsed of energy in different forms. This nine-chapter volume discusses the principles of electric current, voltage, X-rays, gamma rays, heat, beams of electrons, neutrons and ions, magnetic fields, sound, and shock waves in gases and liquids. Considerable chapters consider the applications of capacitor discharges, such as impulse hardening of steel, ultrapulse welding of precision parts, X-ray flash technology, ultrafast image converters, exploding wire shutters and light sources, electromagnetic shutters, flash photolysis, and spark tracing in aerodynamic and automotive research. The remaining chapters explore other practical aspects, including high energy electromagnetic pulse generation, plasma physics, magnet charging, magnetically driven gas and particle accelerators, acoustic echo techniques for remote atmospheric sensing, sonar, and shock waves in high pressure physics and metal forming. This book will prove useful to physicists, electrical and other engineering fields, teachers, and students who are interested in capacitor dischargers.
