Uncertainty characterization in risk analysis for decision-making practice

Uncertainty characterization in risk analysis for decision-making practice PDF Author: Enrico Zio
Publisher: FonCSI
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 63

Book Description
This document provides an overview of sources of uncertainty in probabilistic risk analysis. For each phase of the risk analysis process (system modeling, hazard identification, estimation of the probability and consequences of accident sequences, risk evaluation), the authors describe and classify the types of uncertainty that can arise. The document provides : a description of the risk assessment process, as used in hazardous industries such as nuclear power and offshore oil and gas extraction ; a classification of sources of uncertainty (both epistemic and aleatory) and a description of techniques for uncertainty representation ; a description of the different steps involved in a Probabilistic Risk Assessement (PRA) or Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), and an analysis of the types of uncertainty that can affect each of these steps ; annexes giving an overview of a number of tools used during probabilistic risk assessment, including the HAZID technique, fault trees and event tree analysis.

Ucode_2005 and Six Other Computer Codes for Universal Sensitivity Analysis, Calibration, and Uncertainty Evaluation

Ucode_2005 and Six Other Computer Codes for Universal Sensitivity Analysis, Calibration, and Uncertainty Evaluation PDF Author: Eileen P. Poeter
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 9781500562854
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 298

Book Description
The documentation presented in this report includes brief listings of the methods used and detailed descriptions of the required input files and typical use of the output files. Detailed information on the methods, guidelines for conducting sensitivity analysis, data needs assessment, calibration, and uncertainty evaluation of a model of a complex system using examples mostly from ground-water modeling, and well-documented instructional exercises are presented by Hill and Tiedeman (in press). Together, this report, Hill and Tiedeman (in press), and Christensen and Cooley (2005) serve to document the computer codes described in this work. A more limited discussion of most of the methods and a previous version of the guidelines are presented in Hill (1994) and Hill (1998), which served to partially document the earlier programs. More on the methods described by Christensen and Cooley (2005) is presented by Cooley (2004).

Sensitivity and Uncertainty Analysis, Volume II

Sensitivity and Uncertainty Analysis, Volume II PDF Author: Dan G. Cacuci
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 020348357X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 367

Book Description
As computer-assisted modeling and analysis of physical processes have continued to grow and diversify, sensitivity and uncertainty analyses have become indispensable scientific tools. Sensitivity and Uncertainty Analysis. Volume I: Theory focused on the mathematical underpinnings of two important methods for such analyses: the Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis Procedure and the Global Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis Procedure. This volume concentrates on the practical aspects of performing these analyses for large-scale systems. The applications addressed include two-phase flow problems, a radiative convective model for climate simulations, and large-scale models for numerical weather prediction.
