Aujourd'hui en France, la plupart des accouchements se déroulent en milieu hospitalier public ou privé, afin de renforcer la sécurité materno-fœtale et néonatale. La médecine, en s'appropriant la naissance, a conduit à désinvestir trop souvent la femme de son accouchement par la standardisation des pratiques. Les données actuelles de la littérature sont en faveur de la prise en charge médicale adaptée au niveau de risque de la patiente, même si le postulat de l'accouchement à risques imprévisibles subsiste. Tenant compte des compétences de la sage-femme, de la relation femme/professionnels de santé spécifique autour de la naissance, de la réalité législative et des soins efficaces en obstétrique, je me suis attachée à étudier la prise en charge de l'accouchement des femmes à bas risque obstétrical. Ainsi, j'ai réalisé une étude qualitative auprès de 33 femmes en suites de couches et de 33 sages-femmes, avec une description précise du partenariat femme/sage-femme pour l'accouchement. A l'heure actuelle, la majorité des femmes sont satisfaites de leur prise en charge. Pourtant, leur souhait est d'être davantage informées sur toutes les possibilités qui leur sont offertes autour de la naissance, ainsi que sur leur droit à donner leur avis sur les soins qui leur sont prodigués. Elles souhaitent une plus grande diversité de propositions de façon à pouvoir se réapproprier leur accouchement et la naissance de leur enfant. Les sages-femmes, de leur côté, estiment, pour une proportion significative de pratiques, qu'une négociation est envisageable avec la femme. Le projet de Naissance s'avère en ce sens un outil favorable au développement du partenariat entre la femme et la sage-femme. Une brochure d'information à son sujet, ainsi qu'une définition de la sage-femme présentée aux femmes enceintes, pourrait être un point de départ pour multiplier les échanges et le suivi des grossesses physiologiques par la sage-femme.
