Ultrasonic Methods in Evaluation of Inhomogeneous Materials

Ultrasonic Methods in Evaluation of Inhomogeneous Materials PDF Author: A. Alippi

Book Description
The purpose of the School, the content of which is reflected in this book, is to bring together experiences and knowledge of those acousticians who are particularly sensible to materials and their properties, specifically to those materials that may be called inhomo geneous. The two things together: acoustics and inhomogeneity, define factually a dimension less parameter, AI a, which is the ratio between the sound wavelength and the spatial length of the material where its physical characteristics notably change. An implicit defmition is, therefore, at hand for an inhomogeneous medium, which has the characteristic of a condi tioned definition and sets a looser constraint to the otherwise strict statement of invariance under translations. Composite, biologicai, porous, stratified materials are in the list of inhomogeneous materials, whose technological or structural interest has grown greatly in recent times. Ul trasonic waves offer a means for their investigation, which is valuable for it can be non destructive, continuous in time, spatially localized, dependent on the size of inhomoge neities.

Ultrasonic Nondestructive Testing of Materials

Ultrasonic Nondestructive Testing of Materials PDF Author: Karl-Jörg Langenberg
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1439855900
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 756

Book Description
This book features a comprehensive discussion of the mathematical foundations of ultrasonic nondestructive testing of materials. The authors include a brief description of the theory of acoustic and electromagnetic fields to underline the similarities and differences with respect to elastodynamics. They also cover vector, elastic plane, and Rayleigh surface waves as well as ultrasonic beams, inverse scattering, and ultrasonic nondestructive imaging. A coordinate-free notation system is used that is easier to understand and navigate than standard index notation.

Nondestructive Evaluation

Nondestructive Evaluation PDF Author: Don E. Bray
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849326554
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 618

Book Description
Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) inspection schemes are important in design, manufacturing, and maintenance. By correctly applying techniques of NDE, we can reduce machine and system failures and increase reliability of operating systems over an extended lifetime. Nondestructive Evaluation: A Tool in Design, Manufacturing, and Service introduces and discusses primary techniques used in the field, including ultrasonics, acoustic emission, magnetics, radiography, penetrants, and eddy currents. Examples of each of these techniques are included, demonstrating typical applications.

Quantitative Ultrasound in Soft Tissues

Quantitative Ultrasound in Soft Tissues PDF Author: Jonathan Mamou
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031219872
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 305

Book Description
Quantitative ultrasound (QUS) continues to mature as a research field and is primed to make a swift transition to routine preclinical and clinical applications. This book will serve two main purposes: Advanced education in QUS by providing a complete and thorough review of all theoretical, physical, and engineering aspects of QUS. Review of recent development of QUS by lead contributors in the research field. This 2nd edition will focus on 6 modern research topics related to quantitative ultrasound of soft tissues: Spectral-based methods for tissue characterization, tissue typing, cancer detection, etc. Attenuation estimation for tissue characterization and improving spectral based methods Envelope statistics analysis as a means of quantifying and imaging tissue properties. Ultrasound computed tomography for preclinical and clinical imaging. Scanning acoustic microscopy for forming images of mechanical properties of soft tissues with micron resolution. Phantoms for quantitative ultrasound.
