Arid Zone Irrigation

Arid Zone Irrigation PDF Author: Bruno Yaron
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 364265570X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 420

Book Description
A book previously published within the framework of the Ecological Studies Series, entitled "Physical Aspects of Soil Water and Salts in Ecosystems" included awidespectrum of research papers devoted to new findings in the field of soil-plant-water relationships. "Arid Zone Irrigation" has been written specifically as a textbook for agronomists, soil scientists, agrometeorologists, water engineers and plant physiologists who want a clear presentation of irrigation fundamentals in arid and semi-arid zones. It was our intention to provide an understanding of the basic principles governing irrigation technology and to help overcome the problem of water shortage in arid zone agriculture. This book, written by a large number of specialists and covering a broad spectrum of different disciplines, is based on general up-to-date information, as well as on the results of the authors' own research. The idea of preparing such a textbook was conceived during a series of international advanced courses on irrigation held annually at the Institute of Soils and Water, Agricul tural Research Organization, Volcani Center, Bet Dagan, Israel. The final organization of the material has been influenced by discussions with colleagues from Sweden and Holland and the participants in our summer courses. Grateful acknowledgements are due to Professor CALVIN C. ROSE, CSIRO, Canberra, Australia, Professor DALE SWARTZENDRUBER, Purdue University, Lafayetta, U.S.A., and Dr. SHLOMO P. NEUMAN, Agricultural Research Organization, Bet Dagan, Israel, for their many helpful suggestions during critical reading of the manuscript. We thank also Mrs.

Book Description
Excerpt from Fruit-Growing in Arid Regions: An Account of Approved Fruit-Growing Practices in the Inter-Mountain Country of the Western United Stated, Comprising the States of Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and in Northern Arizona and New Mexico, With Applications to Adjacent Regions The observing traveler is at once impressed with the intelligence of the people who are engaging in fruit-grow ing in the inter-mountain country. We find here people from all walks of life, attracted by the advantages of climate or the possibilities of money-making in a pleasant and healthful occupation. One may meet in a day's ride among the orchards, former doctors, lawyers, teachers, preachers, merchants, farmers, and young men recently graduated from an eastern university or college. It is such persons that create a demand for horticultural information, and their letters to officers of the Experiment Stations, while direct and intelligent, Often would require one to write a book in order to supply the information. We have endeavored to meet this demand in the following pages. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
In every region of the world it is necessary to find or develop appropriate techniques for agriculture. A large part of the surface of the world is arid, characterized as too dry for conventional rain fed agriculture. Yet, millions of people live in such regions, and if current trends in population increase continue, there will soon be millions more. These people must eat, and the wisest course for them is to produce their own food. Yet, the techniques are so varied that only a very large volume would cover the entire subject.
